CALGARY, ALBERTA - November 28, 2008 – Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB) (NYSE:ENB) has released its fifth annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report, designed to give stakeholders an in-depth look into its economic, environmental and social performance in 2007 and part of 2008.
The structure and content of the 2008 report adhere closely to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 sustainability reporting guidelines, which serve as an internationally-accepted standard for reporting on an organization's CSR performance. While previous versions of Enbridge's CSR Reports have also adhered to the GRI guidelines, this year's report is the Company’s most comprehensive effort to date in presenting a full, transparent and balanced accounting of Enbridge's performance.
In preparing the report, Enbridge engaged the input of Canadian Business for Social Responsibility (CBSR), a business-led, non-profit CSR consultancy that advises its members on how to improve CSR performance. Enbridge also engaged the input of its employees through a CSR Employee Advisory Council.
In addition to reporting on Enbridge's CSR performance, the report, titled Good Thinking in a climate of change, features selected interviews with a number of prominent stakeholders and community partners on the subject of sustainability. Featured interviews include Dr. Bob Page, Chair of Canada's National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy; Tabitha Rice, Vice-President, Texas Children's Hospital; Phil Fontaine, National Chief, Assembly of First Nations: and Perrin Beatty, President & CEO, Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
"Enbridge has a social responsibility to deliver energy to people, and we plan to continue to play this role for a long time to come," said Patrick D. Daniel, President & Chief Executive Officer of Enbridge Inc. "We also plan on being one of the world's most sustainable corporations, and I am confident that, with a lot of logical thinking on our side, we’ll achieve both goals."
