    SustainAbility is currently seeking a qualified individual to join its Washington, DC office as an Analyst. The successful candidate will provide research and support, assisting in proposal development, and disseminating key learnings to our Core Team. A brief job description is provided below.

    SustainAbility Projects, Research and Campaigns: 40% of Total Time

    Highest responsibility is contributing to key client projects, research programs and campaigns. Project responsibilities will include:

    1. Supporting the energy sector team by providing research and analysis and monitoring developments. This is one of SustainAbility’s priority sectors and will be the focus of specific research and client projects in 2007-08 and beyond. Specific tasks will include:

     

  • Providing project research, analysis and support including conducting desk-based research and analysis, undertaking interviews and surveys.

     

     

  • Conducting research to help develop SustainAbility positions on key topics for the sector (e.g. helping in drafting position papers, sector benchmarks, and issue briefs).

     

     

  • Supporting proposal development and new business development Helping to ensure quality and timeliness of project deliverables, especially reports and presentations.

     

     

  • Participating in sector / project team meetings and, on occasion, in client meetings.

     

     

  • Disseminating learning from project to Core Team and Network.

     

    2. Beyond this sector, as needed, the analyst may also be asked to provide similar support to projects in other sectors.

    3. Assessing and benchmarking Corporate Responsibility Reports using SustainAbility’s proprietary methodology.

    4. Organizing virtual seminars for the Engaging Stakeholders Program 3-6 times per year.

    Leapfrog and Sustainable Innovation Program: 40% of total time

    The Analyst will also be expected to support the development of all aspects of SustainAbility’s Leapfrog and Sustainable Innovation program. The program focuses on developing new business models that leapfrog current markets and systems to deliver sustainable value. Responsibilities will include:

    1. Providing research, analysis and support for the development of SustainAbility’s intellectual base around cases that demonstrate business model innovation.

    2. Monitoring developments on sustainable innovation and new business models through external news and research sources such as Lexis-Nexis, and update relevant members of the Leapfrog and Sustainable Innovation team.

    3. Contributing to SA research projects, bringing analysis and insights, particularly based on learnings from case studies.

    4. Supporting development of workshops, roundtables and other events on Leapfrog and Sustainable Innovation through helping to develop presentations, supporting organisation, etc.

    5. Supporting Leapfrog and Sustainable Innovation client work and new business development including supporting sector teams with research for clients’ new business model planning and funding and helping develop marketing materials.

    6. Disseminating learning from Leapfrog and Sustainable Innovation research and intellectual base to core team, including through awareness briefings, SA Forum, etc.

    7. Attending relevant conferences.

    Internal: 10% of Total Time

    Responsibilities include:

     

  • Building Core Team knowledge base by sharing knowledge and learning through project work

     

     

  • Supporting administrative needs on ad-hoc basis

     

    Outreach: 5% of Total Time

    Responsibilities include conducting research and support for:

     

  • Presentations at conferences, workshops and seminars

     

     

  • Articles written for publication

     

    Development: 5% of Total Time

    Responsibilities include:

     

  • Identifying and pursuing training and other opportunities for professional growth (beyond on-the-job experience and mentorship) to enable the above to be carried out with increasing effectiveness

     

     

  • Participating in team events and meetings.

     

    Skills and experience

    Required

     

  • An advanced degree preferably in international development, corporate responsibility, environmental studies, policy studies, economics, or business

     

     

  • Excellent research and analysis skills with proven ability to deliver to deadlines

     

     

  • Solid understanding of the sustainable development agenda

     

     

  • Internship or other experience related to corporate responsibility or sustainable development

     

     

  • A team player with a positive and proactive attitude

     

     

  • Ability to prioritise and work effectively under pressure

     

     

  • Self-starter, able to follow-through with minimal supervision

     

     

  • Excellent English; verbal and written communication skills

     

     

  • Highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

     

     

  • Prepared to be located in Washington, DC and willing to travel occasionally

     

     

  • A desire to learn and develop

     

    Desirable

     

  • Experience in managing projects to deadlines

     

     

  • Business or consulting experience (especially from the Energy sector)

     

     

  • Knowledge of innovative and leapfrog business models, corporate or other innovation processes, and business planning

     

    Other Information

     

  • This position is a full-time position based in Washington, DC.

     

     

  • Preferred start date is July 2007.

     

     

  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and is in the range between NGO and corporate pay.
