PR Newswire's corporate giving program was designed to enable employees to vote on recipients of cash grants and group volunteer time, in cities where the company has a significant employee base. Habitat for Humanity was chosen as one of a couple of Albuquerque-area charities to receive a grant from PR Newswire in 2007.

"Habitat for Humanity rebuilds lives by building homes in Greater Albuquerque," said Winni duBois, Habitat for Humanity. "PR Newswire employees improved the Albuquerque community by graciously dedicating time and resources to Habitat for Humanity. Through the work of the PR Newswire volunteers and the generous grant supplied through their charitable giving program, we are better able to assist the less fortunate residents of Albuquerque."

In November, volunteers from PR Newswire worked side by side with homeowners to build a new house. They nailed up eaves, shingled a roof, put up drywall, dug out a driveway and painted, all while being supervised by local experts.

Local PR Newswire staff also volunteered at an Albuquerque Isotopes (Major League Baseball's minor league affiliate for the Florida Marlins) game in August. The staff helped with Habitat for Humanity's food stand, raising money for the organization.

"Habitat for Humanity is assisting in the creation of 17 new homes in Albuquerque," said Judy Lochrie, charitable giving advocate for PR Newswire's Albuquerque bureau. "They are doing a great deal for this community, and our staff has really enjoyed lending our assistance where it's most needed. Working with the local homeowners was especially meaningful for our group."

PR Newswire provides assistance to non-profit organizations in a number of different ways including through direct grants, volunteerism, in-kind donations and sponsorships. PR Newswire also matches employee fundraising, volunteering and individual donations.
