Trane Advances Green Communities with Platinum Sponsorship of Greenbuild 2008

Published 10-23-08

Submitted by Trane, Inc.

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort systems and services for homes and commercial buildings, will be prominently represented in Boston as the city welcomes the U.S. Green Building Council's 2008 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo on Nov.19-21 in the Boston Convention and Expo Center (BCEC).

As a platinum sponsor for the third consecutive year, Trane will continue to educate the industry on how "Greener Buildings Create Better Communities."

The business will do this through its continued sponsorship of LEED for Schools, a rating system for greening new schools; LEED for Homes and REGREEN, which are the first nationwide guidelines for green home remodeling projects.

Trane will also host industry leaders, students, consultants, designers and facilities leaders in its booth located at #1210, where new systems, relationships and research will also be unveiled for the first time.

"Energy and indoor air represent nearly two-thirds of the points needed to earn LEED certification for commercial buildings, and are factors influenced by heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and services," said John W. Conover, president of Trane's commercial systems business in the Americas. "That’s why it's critical for businesses like ours to be an active part of the green building dialogue, offering new ideas, solutions and case examples that demonstrate progress."

"Consumers continue to search for ways to make their homes, whether new or existing, healthier, and more comfortable and cost effective," said Dave Pannier, president of Trane's residential systems business. "Our indoor comfort and air cleaning systems play a critical role in the process, and when combined with the LEED for Homes and REGREEN programs, will continue to have a measurable impact for consumers."

LEED for Schools Rating System and Events

The LEED for Schools Rating System recognizes the unique nature of the design and construction of K-12 schools. Based on the LEED for New Construction rating system, it addresses issues such as classroom acoustics, master planning, mold prevention and environmental site assessment.

Trane will continue for the third consecutive year as national sponsor for LEED for Schools and at Greenbuild, will meet and speak with school designers, facility managers and administrators to discuss the importance of green schools and the successful application of this rating system at:

LEED for Schools reception to be held on Nov. 20, 6-7:30 p.m., Westin Hotel (connected to BCEC), Commonwealth ballroom

"Green Schools: Rearing the Sustainability Native" specialty update, to be held on Nov. 19, noon-1 p.m. in room 162AB, BCEC

Curriculum Awards program: K-12 and higher education, to be held on Nov. 20, 2-3 p.m., Room 157AB, BCEC

Six "Green Ed" learning track sessions for educators, builders, architects and policy makers to be held on Nov. 19-21, in room 210C, BCEC

"A classroom's environment, including lighting, temperature, humidity and noise level, plays a significant role in a student's ability to concentrate and learn," said Conover. "Green schools cost taxpayers less than two percent more yet provide financial benefits that are 20 times as large. In fact, for an average school, building green would save enough money to pay for an additional full-time teacher."

LEED for Homes Rating System and REGREEN Events

LEED for Homes and REGREEN are rating systems that promote green design and construction, and residential remodeling, respectively.

Trane will continue for the second consecutive year as national sponsor for LEED for Homes, and for the first time as national sponsor for the REGREEN program. Trane leaders will meet and speak with designers and consumers to discuss the marriage of residential home systems and the application of these rating systems at:

"REGREEN Residential Remodeling Guidelines," a half-day workshop for residential remodeling professionals and homeowners interested in the new green remodeling guidelines. It will be held on Nov. 21, from 2-6 p.m. in room 107A, BCEC

The closing reception for Green Homebuilders Day, which offers 12 educational sessions on residential green building topics, will be held on Nov. 20, 5:30-7 p.m., Westin Hotel Grand Ballroom C

"The average household will spend almost $2,350 on home energy costs in 2008, about 10 percent more than in 2007. Heating and cooling expenses represent about half of these home energy costs(1)," said Pannier.

"Trane's technology is designed to achieve maximum efficiency, reliability and comfort. It's about delivering the efficiency that our ratings promise and customers expect. We look forward to discussing with consumers, the ways that they can reduce their home heating and cooling expenses by installing energy-efficient comfort systems that are also environmentally responsible."
