WASHINGTON, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following announcement calls for case studies related to global health concerns and is a partnership of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Health Progress (GHP), the WHO's Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), and the Association of University Technology Managers. Our goal is to then share the lessons learned from the case studies with the wider global health community in the fall of 2009.
The aim of the collaboration is to collect and compile multi-sector case studies from an array of global health stakeholders, including private funders, international and multilateral organizations, universities and non-profit research centers, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, public-private partnerships, non-governmental organizations, and governments. The deadline for submission of case studies is December 1, 2008.

Call for Global Health Case Studies

Summary
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, World Health Organization's Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), Global Health Progress (GHP), International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) and Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) have joined together to prepare a set of multi-sector case studies to identify ways in which key stakeholders are addressing global health concerns. These studies will briefly describe existing or planned collaborative relationships, projects and transactions with the aim of sharing lessons learned with the wider global health community. They may cover any part of the spectrum of global health work, including research, development, delivery, and financing mechanisms. We will publish 40-50 case studies, each being 3-5 pages in length.
Core Theme
The case studies will highlight collaborations, partnerships and transactions that address a global health concern. Global health concern refers to those diseases that have a disproportionate impact on developing countries, but need not be the sole focus of the collaboration or transaction.
Eligibility Criteria
Stakeholders who are participants in collaborative relationships, projects or transactions that address a global health concern are encouraged to submit a proposal for a case study. Examples of stakeholders include private funders, international and multilateral organizations, universities and non-profit research centers, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, Public-Private Partnerships, Non-Governmental Organizations, and governments.
Proposals can be submitted online at the entry page here www.casestudiesforglobalhealth.org or downloaded and submitted by email to info@casestudiesforglobalhealth.org. Deadline for submission is December 1, 2008.
Each stakeholder that submits a proposal will be expected to have informed all other parties involved. All submissions must:
- Reflect actual collaborative relationships, projects or transactions entered into within the past 5 years;
- Identify all participants and funders of the activities described in the submission; and
- Designate an individual as the primary point of contact for any questions relating to the submission.
Submissions will be selected to be further developed into case studies based on how well they:
- Demonstrate a transaction and/or collaboration across sectors (e.g., philanthropic, international, multilateral, academic, non-profit, private industry, governmental, etc.) that address a global health concern.
- Address each of the areas outlined in the Submission Form, and provide sufficient content to establish the framework for a 3-5 page case study.
- Describe challenges, approaches to address these challenges, and outcomes (actual and potential).
Case studies will be selected by a review committee based on their adherence to the core theme and the criteria listed above. The initial selection will occur by January 2009, at which time the designated primary point of contact will be contacted for further details.
Professional writers will draft the case studies, and will work with the submitter to elicit additional details and commentary during the initial weeks after selection. Such support should be provided with the approval of the other parties involved in the submission. Our goal is to publish the case studies in the fall of 2009.
