CALGARY, AB. - August 18, 2008 - In the midst of unprecedented growth within the field of sustainability consulting, Jacques Whitford Ltd. is pleased to announce its acquisition of The Sheltair Group. The newly created entity, Sheltair, a Jacques Whitford Company, unites two formidable sustainability authorities and creates Western Canada’s foremost resource for sustainability consulting.

The need for corporate and government clients to ensure the environmental sustainability of their operations has increased significantly and Jacques Whitford has made sustainability a main priority both in its own operations and on behalf of clients. This acquisition strengthens the firm’s ability to keep up with increasing demand in the region and to offer multi-disciplinary expertise in policy development, strategic planning, project implementation and management, and evaluation.

Sheltair is a leading Vancouver-based consulting firm with a national scope and a 25-year history of taking an integrated and sustainable approach to urban planning, building engineering and resource management. Sheltair brings to Jacques Whitford a strong reputation, solid client bases in all sectors, and innovative staff with demonstrated expertise in creating innovative and integrated solutions for their clients’ built environments "“ from materials, buildings and infrastructure, to neighborhoods, communities and larger urban regions.

The acquisition is effective immediately. The company will initially be managed by Sebastian Moffatt and will report directly to Bob Seager, President of Jacques Whitford’s Western Operations.

Sustainability Statement Jacques Whitford understands sustainability to simply mean: living responsibly, as individuals, communities, businesses and societies in ways that do not damage the natural world. Living responsibly includes enhancing environmental, social, cultural, economic and human rights conditions. The only way to do so is by taking integrated, long-term approaches that systematically unite social, economic and environmental factors as complementary allies. Jacques Whitford's commitment to sustainability arises in view of one big question that we have decided should have bearing on everything we do: 'What will our children, grandchildren and their children inherit?' To answer this question in a way that future generations will respect, we understand that 21st century business solutions will require adopting a revised set of values and metrics upon which to base decisions. They must incorporate a set of environmental, economic and social factors around which all stakeholders can coalesce. We believe that this is not only possible but necessary - redefining business success in ways that improve the environmental, social and economic fabric of our world. We don't think that this is some sort of new 'fuzzy thinking', but rather that our well tried quantitative and practical expertise can be applied to a revised set of standards and expectations.
