DBP makes nail polish flexible but has adverse effects on the development of the reproductive tract in males. Toluene helps nail polish go on evenly but also is a nervous system toxin. Formaldehyde hardens polish and prevents chipping, but inhaling it can be detrimental to your lungs, eyes, throat, and nose. Some labels are confusing because they state that formaldehyde isn't added as an ingredient; however, the polish still contains a Formaldehyde Resin, which is created through a chemical reaction between two other ingredients.
