Abbott was named one of the top three 2010 Best in Class companies in its industry sector by Storebrand Investments, a leading Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) firm. Abbott's Best in Class status is based on an evaluation of the financial, environmental and social performance of 15 companies in the pharmaceutical industry.

Storebrand industry analyses begin with an initial selection of companies based on financial criteria established by Storebrand portfolio managers. Only this selection of companies is then evaluated based on environmental, social and corporate governance performance. The analyses were based on publicly-available information as well as data provided by Asset4, a Thompson Reuters company.

Global citizenship is an integral part of Abbott's mission to improve people's lives. The company's focus on sustainability is reflected in how the company conducts its business around the world, with a key focus on four areas: innovating for the future, enhancing access to health care, safeguarding the environment, and protecting patients and consumers.

In addition to being named Best in Class by Storebrand, Abbott has been included on both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and North America Index for five consecutive years. Abbott also ranked sixth overall on the global "100 Best Corporate Citizens List 2010" compiled by Corporate Responsibility magazine, and the company has been recognized for its sustainability efforts in countries around the world, including Brazil, China, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Singapore, Tanzania and the United States.
