Employees and supporters of L'Oreal USA, based in Clark, New Jersey, gathered recently for the company’s second annual charity golf outing, Fore the Children, at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Bedminster Township. In total, L'Oreal USA raised $300,000 from this year's event to benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital. This year’s donation will be used to fund the renovation of the long term care unit family lounge at the Mountainside facility. Last year the company raised more than $250,000 to benefit the hospital.

The event drew 500 supporters, 360 of whom played 18 holes of golf, including two former NY Giants players. Each attendee was invited to participate in silent and live auctions, and received a high value goody bag with products from leading L'Oreal USA's brands such as The Body Shop, Diesel, Matrix, Armani, L'Oreal Paris, Kiehl's Since 1851.

Vince Serpico, Senior Vice President, Operations, L'Oreal USA, was the driving force behind the creation of this fundraising venture in 2007. The concept was developed and met with great enthusiasm by L'Oreal USA employees who solicited suppliers, friends, and other community supporters for cash and in-kind donations.

"I am very proud that the L'Oreal USA team has been able to continue our efforts toward another successful charity event for Children's Specialized Hospital. The team has clearly demonstrated that this cause has touched the hearts of everyone involved, and that together, we can achieve extraordinary results," said Serpico. "It has been a very rewarding activity for all of us."

"This year we have a large contingent of L'Oreal USA employees that have combined their efforts to create something special - Fore the Children," said Morris Lenczicki, L'Oreal USA Fore the Children committee chair. "We have shown what can be done to make a difference in the lives of others, and how working together for a special cause brings us closer. This is one of the reasons why community service is such an enriching endeavor."

Former Children's Specialized Hospital patient Michael Nepola and his family shared their story with guests attending the golf outing. Mike, now 18, was in a devastating car accident in July 2008. He suffered a traumatic brain injury which left him unable to talk or walk independently. As an inpatient at Children's Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick for several weeks, he received intense physical and occupational therapy. Mike has made it his mission to share his story with the hope that other teens will make better decisions about drinking and driving and wearing seatbelts. Mike continues to receive outpatient therapy through Children's Specialized Hospital and credits his time there as being one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences of his life.

"I am very grateful to Children's Specialized Hospital for what they did for me and I am proud to be involved in supporting L'Oreal's fund raising efforts," said Mike Nepola. "I want to thank everybody involved as their efforts will have an impact on so many children and their families."
