The SHF40 will be presented at West Coast Green this year.

On October 1st, Green Horizon Manufacturing will introduce the SFH40 - a fully self-sustaining innovation in green home building concepts "“ at West Coast Green 2009, the largest conference on green innovation for the built environment. Designed as a dramatic improvement to standard temporary housing structures currently in use during disaster relief efforts, the SFH40 fits inside of a standard shipping container for easy transportation by truck, rail or ship anywhere in the world.

Once at its destination, the house can be set up and habitable in less than two hours. The structures are built in modular components, so when it comes to weathering storms, any given part can be easily swapped out and replaced. With endless configurations for administrative, medical and communication applications, the units are ideal for a multitude of emergency and disaster response applications. Each structure is shipped equipped with food, water, electricity and clothing. Other key features include a built-in fresh water supply, photovoltaic array, waste water treatment system, tri-fuel power supply, an energy efficient heating and cooling system, and is built from 100% recycled materials.

"A family of four could walk into the self-sustaining structure with nothing and survive for a week without any external infrastructure," said Darren Krolewski, Director of Media Relations at Green Horizon.

Tours will be available all three days of the West Coast Green Conference and Expo, October 1-3, at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.

Based in Stockton, California, where these the modular homes will be manufactured and deployed, Green Horizon Manufacturing's factory facilities are designed to obtain LEED Platinum certification.

In addition to tours of the Green Horizon house, the 14,000 expected West Coast Green attendees have a chance to swap business cards at a green jobs fair, try out technologies that have yet to hit the market, and contribute to a design slam alongside industry leaders. The 2009 conference will feature 125 speakers, 80 education and networking sessions and 300 exhibits.
