Seventh Generation is marking the start of Ovarian Cancer Month, September 1, 2009, with "Let's Talk...Period" Day: a 24-hour online event that aims to celebrate, educate and donate funds for ovarian cancer research. The nation's leading brand of non-toxic personal and home care products is sponsoring the online event for women to share and learn about gynecological health on www.LetsTalkPeriod.com. In conjunction with the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF), the leading organization dedicated to funding research to find a method of early detection and a cure for ovarian cancer, LetsTalkPeriod.com will help facilitate conversations while generating important donations for ovarian cancer research.

"We're very thankful to Seventh Generation for their strong commitment to raising awareness of ovarian cancer and their dedication to help drive donations during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month," said Elizabeth Howard, Chief Executive Officer of the OCRF. "With their help, OCRF will get one step closer to finding better ways to detect, treat and ultimately eradicate ovarian cancer."

Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers in the United States and is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among U.S. women. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are often vague and subtle, making it difficult to detect and diagnose.

For every person that visits www.LetsTalkPeriod.com and registers their email address on September 1, 2009, $1 will be donated by Seventh Generation to the OCRF. The donation will be capped at $22,000, representing the 22,000 women that are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year.

Although almost a quarter of the U.S. population is comprised of menstruating women, gynecological health is rarely openly discussed in social circles. In an attempt to raise funds and awareness, the site will also aim to educate women about safe alternatives to conventional feminine care products.

"Education and dialogue is core to the Seventh Generation philosophy," said Sheila Hollender, Director of Giving for the company. "Over the course of her lifetime, a woman is estimated to use nearly 11,000 tampons. It's our fervent hope that this initiative will inspire women to talk openly about reproductive health and the preventative measures they can take to protect themselves, their friends, their sisters, and their daughters."

Seventh Generation's chlorine-free organic cotton tampons and chlorine-free pads and pantiliners are designed to offer women the reliable, comfortable protection they need, while reducing the amount of chlorinated toxins released into the environment.
