CSRwire - Naperville, IL - June 10, 2009 - For the first time, Nicor has been selected for inclusion in United Way of Metropolitan Chicago’s Top 25 Corporate Citizens. United Way annually honors Chicagoland companies who contribute the most to United Way through corporate and employee gifts, special events, grants, sponsorships, and the Endowment, as well as Loaned Executive Program participation, during the companies’ annual campaigns.

United Way recently celebrated the Top 25 Corporate Citizens of Metropolitan Chicago at its annual Community Celebration that honors all those in metropolitan Chicago who chose to LIVE UNITED by giving, advocating, and volunteering through United Way.

“Thanks to the efforts of our employees and retirees, Nicor has averaged more than $1 million in annual charitable contributions to United Way over the past 18 years,” said Claudia Colalillo, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Corporate Contributions for Nicor Inc. and Nicor Gas. “Especially during these tough economic times, I am so proud of our employees who responded to the needs of others by increasing their donations and helping the company raise $27,000 more than last year.”

United Way is the largest non-governmental funder of health and human services in the Chicagoland region and at the celebration, United Way announced it is investing $43 million into health and human service programs throughout the 238 communities it serves.

Nicor began supporting United Way in 1954, and has continued to partner with the organization for the past 55 years. “Nicor supports the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago as their mission parallels Nicor’s own goal of helping to build a better community,” said Colalillo.
