Austin, Texas – June 02, 2009,/ Image Microsystems, a leading national recycler for electronic waste and manufacturer of recycled plastic products has been selected for the second year in a row as finalist for the state's highest environmental achievement. Through research and collaboration with Texas Tech University, Image has designed the world’s first manufacturing plant to produce recycled products from inkjet printer cartridges.

In addition, Image has teamed up with Texas School for the Deaf to employ Deaf and special need students which make up 90% of the workforce in the Ink Cartridge Recycling Division.

“We are very excited for TCEQ’s recognition of our technology and efforts. We believe by utilizing our innovative technology to convert E-waste into an environmentally friendly product, coupled with the employment of our disabled workforce, we have created a successful model for other companies throughout the nation” said Dr. Alex Abadi CEO of Image Microsystems.

Hundreds of applications were reviewed and scored by TCEQ staff. Projects that scored highest were forwarded to the Blue Ribbon Selection Committee for judging. This committee along with representatives from industry, local government, civic organizations, school and state-wide environmental groups, recommended finalists and winners to the governor and the TCEQ commissioners. Finalists will receive the 2009 Texas Environmental Excellence award certificate signed by Governor Rick Perry.

“Image Microsystems provides solutions that combine efforts to safely process recycled products while at the same time giving back to the community by training and employing the Deaf population. It’s through these types of positive partnerships that all things are possible” said Claire Bugen, Superintendent of Texas School for the Deaf.

“Through our research collaboration with Image Microsystems, we have the opportunity to develop leading edge research solutions for both business and academia. The research also supports our undergraduate and graduate curriculum development,” said Dr. Zhang, Professor of Department of Industrial Engineering at Texas Tech University.

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), annually presents the Texas Environmental Excellence Awards to environmental projects across the state that demonstrates excellence in resource conservation, waste reduction and pollution prevention. The award-winning programs reflect the goals of the TCEQ itself: to protect Texas’ human and natural resources and ensure clean air, clean water and the safe management of waste.
