CSRwire.com — WASHINGTON, D.C. - November 19, 2008 - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) today announced that Allstate Insurance Company received a Corporate Citizenship Award at BCLC's 9th annual dinner and celebration last night at the National Building Museum. Allstate's award is in the category of U.S. Community Service.

"It is a great service to U.S. communities when companies take leadership on important social issues, such as Allstate's commitment to lessening teen risky-driving behaviors," said BCLC Executive Director Stephen Jordan. "This award is in recognition of Allstate's contribution to improving our nation."

Allstate, with The Allstate Foundation, developed a national Teen Safe Driving Program to make the roads safer in all communities. Car crashes are the number one killer of U.S. teens. Each year, nearly 6,000 teens are killed and another 300,000 injured in largely preventable collisions. Crashes caused by teens cost our nation over $34 billion annually. Allstate has created awareness of the issue through a driver-education curriculum for high-school drivers and a parent-teen driving contract to limit risky behavior. The foundation complements these efforts with campaigns and research mobilizing parents, teens, policy leaders and healthcare providers around the issue.

"Allstate shares this award with the many community partners, parents and teens who share our belief that teen driving deaths are one of America's most serious public health issues", said Vicky Dinges, assistant vice president for public social responsibility at Allstate. "We'll savor this moment, but tomorrow it's back to work. There are still thousands of teens dying on American roads every year."

A panel of corporate citizenship experts, including past award winners and BCLC's board of directors, selected Allstate as the award winner. Other finalists in the U.S. Community Service category were Air Conditioning Contractors of America, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, Southwest Airlines and Xcel Energy. BCLC is a 501(c)(3) affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and is the Chamber's voice and resource for the social and philanthropic interests of the business community. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
