Interface, Inc., was honored with an EPA Climate Protection Award for its progress in reducting ozone depleting and heat-trapping gas emissions. Mike Bertolucci, Ph.D., president of Interface Research Corporation, was on hand to accept the award. As of 2003, Interface, Inc. had reduced its global carbon dioxide emissions by 46% from 1996 levels, through programs such as "Cool Carpet," "Trees for Travel," Clean Co2mmute and the Interface Cool Fuel program.

"Reducing our greenhouse gas footprint is a key initiative for all associates at Interface," said Dr. Bertolucci. "From offsetting the emissions associated with our air travel, to changing the ways we produce our products, to offsetting our individual automobile commutes, we are very proud of our ability to create programs that are recognized for their value in 'cooling off' the environment."

Interface Flooring Systems' landfill methane gas project was also included in the nomination due to the positive impact that it will have on offsetting greenhouse gas emissions for the company as a whole.

Interface is one of 12 international recipients of the Climate Protection Award. Other winners include Turbocor Inc., China Certification Center for Energy Conservation Products (CECP), New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), City of San Diego, City and County of San Francisco, European Commission Fluorinated Gas Team, Electrical Inverter Air Conditioning System Team, SF6 Emission Reduction Partnership for the Magnesium Industry, Mayor David B. Cohen, Newton, Mass., Johnson & Johnson's Harry Kaufman and Instituto Nacional de Ecologia's Julia Martinez.
