BETHESDA, MD. - December 1, 2008 - The Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities announced today the appointment of 17-year Marriott veteran Shelby Hill as the Program Director of the Washington, D.C./Metro Bridges office.

"We are thrilled to have Shelby join our team," said Tad Asbury, vice president and executive director, Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities. "She brings a wealth of knowledge in the areas of technology, management and education. We are excited to have her."

Ms. Hill will be managing a team of specialists who work with schools to help transition young adults with disabilities into competitive positions with employers in the Montgomery County and Washington, D.C. area. To date, the team has placed more than 2,000 since its opening in 1990.

Ms. Hill started her career at the JW Marriott Hotel on Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington, D.C. as a front desk clerk. She moved to Marriott International headquarters in 1999 as a member of the learning services group. In her most recent role, Hill managed curriculum development for the new headquarters voicemail system upgrade, supported the IR Leadership Development implementation and consulted on the enterprise-wide Learning Scorecard project.

Hill holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and a master's from the University of Maryland University College's Graduate School of Management and Technology. The Maryland native is a board member for Friendship Southeast Elementary Academy Public Charter School and is an active member of the National Black Child Development Institute, Inc.

The Foundation was established in 1989 by the family of J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott to enhance employment opportunities for young people with disabilities. All of the Foundation's resources are directed to the operation and expansion of "Bridges...from school to work" program, which are funded in part by grants from the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Education. The Foundation operates in seven cities – Atlanta, Ga.; Los Angeles, San Francisco/Oakland, Calif.; Philadelphia, Penn.; Chicago, Ill.; Dallas, Texas, and Washington, D.C. (Montgomery County).

Since 1990, The Foundation has placed more than 10,700 young people with more than 3,200 employers in the U.S. For more information, visit www.marriottfoundation.org.
