HOUSTON - Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) have announced a partnership that will give Continental "Official Airline" status for the association's four major events from September 2005 to September 2006. Continental also sponsored the NAHJ's 2005 Convention in June.

"Continental's workforce is almost 17 percent Hispanic, and our Latin American and Caribbean routes comprise 20 percent of our entire operations," said Pete García, Staff Vice President, Latin America. "We applaud the NAHJ's efforts to foster fair treatment for Hispanics in the communications industry and respect for Hispanic culture in general. Continental Airlines is proud to partner with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists to help its staff, members and students with travel arrangements for their professional development."

The partnership consists of:

  • Official Airline of the NAHJ 24th Annual Convention, June 13-17, 2006, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

  • Official Airline of the 20th and 21st NAHJ Annual Noche de Triunfos Journalism Awards Galas, September 15, 2005 and September 2006, Washington, D.C.

  • Official Airline of the 17th Annual NAHJ Scholarship Banquet, February 2006, New York
"NAHJ is very excited about this partnership and Continental Airlines' recognition of our efforts to increase the influence and presence of Latinos in U.S. newsrooms," said Iván Román, NAHJ Executive Director. "This partnership is the first of its kind for the association and willenable us focus our resources on the planning and success of these four events."

The sponsorship includes a Continental MeetingWorks discount agreement for NAHJ members traveling to these and other NAHJ events, such as regional workshops and seminars, and training and professional development seminars.

"We're pleased to extend Continental Airlines' Working Together' philosophy to our partnership with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists," Garcia continued.
