ATA Teaching Innovation Award honors outstanding contributions in tax curriculum development

WILTON, CT - July 30, 2007 - The Deloitte Foundation, a not-for-profit arm of Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, and the American Taxation Association (ATA) have announced that the 2007 Deloitte/ATA Teaching Innovation Award for excellence in tax curricula development will be presented to Dr. Mary Margaret Frank, University of Virginia, Darden School of Business.

Co-sponsored by the Deloitte Foundation and the American Taxation Association (ATA), the award represents innovation in taxation education. Professor Frank is the first ATA Teaching Innovation Award winner to submit materials for an entire course, including multiple tax cases and teaching notes. Her winning submission was the "How to Put More Strategy in Your 'Taxes and Business Strategy' Course: A Case-Method Approach." She will receive a $5,000 honorarium for her work.

Professor Raquel Meyer Alexander, University of Kansas, and Chairman of the ATA Awards Committee, and a representative from Deloitte, will present Dr. Frank with the honors at luncheon ceremonies on August 6 during the American Accounting Association (AAA) annual meeting.

"The ATA Teaching Innovation Award continues to honor dedicated academics that are making a difference in our profession," said Shaun Budnik, president, the Deloitte Foundation and partner, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP. "This award signifies the importance of teaching innovation. We extend our congratulations to Dr. Frank and the work she is sharing with her colleagues in the academic community and the tax profession."

"The ATA is grateful for the continued support of the Deloitte Foundation in tax education, and Professor Frank's body of work will prove to be a valuable contribution in tax curriculum," said Professor Alexander.
