Grant Program Promotes Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Prevention Efforts
STAMFORD, Conn. March 11, 2009 - Six Keep America Beautiful (KAB) affiliates were selected from a nationwide field of more than 40 entries for the 2009 Keep America Beautiful/Anheuser-Busch Environmental Grant Program, it was announced today. The KAB/Anheuser-Busch Environmental Grants awarded $50,000 in total to: "Keep Corinth Beautiful" (Corinth, Miss.); "Quality Forward Asheville" (Ashville, N.C.); "Keep Evansville Beautiful" (Evansville, Ind.); "Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful" (Rockford, Ill.); "Keep Las Cruces Beautiful" (Las Cruces, N.M.) and "Keep California Beautiful" (Sacramento, Calif.).
The grant applicants were matched up with their local Anheuser-Busch wholesalers to support projects designed to increase beverage container recycling and prevent litter through voluntary efforts. Programs receiving grants ranged from event recycling, awareness campaigns and collection systems, to school-based initiatives.
"Selecting only six applications from the many worthy projects we received from across the country was a difficult task," said Hugh Share, director, environmental sustainability, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "In addition to the Keep American Beautiful affiliates involved in this grant program, we also want to thank our wholesalers for their participation and the leadership they continue to demonstrate in supporting litter prevention and recycling efforts in their communities."
