CALGARY, Alberta - Enbridge Inc. (TSX and NYSE:ENB) has released its third annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report offering a look at Enbridge's social responsibility performance, focusing on the Company's progress in four main areas - corporate governance, economic performance, environmental performance and social performance.

"Enbridge is committed to conducting its business in a socially responsible way, and this report outlines our CSR accomplishments over the past year and reviews some of our strategies for remaining a leader in the area of socially responsible, sustainable business," said Patrick D. Daniel, President & Chief Executive Officer of Enbridge Inc. "Everyone who works with or for Enbridge can be proud of what we represent and what we have accomplished over the past year."

The report meets the 'in accordance' specifications set out by the Global Reporting Initiative's (GRI) 2002 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. An internal audit of the performance data in the report was also completed by Enbridge's Audit Services Department.

Highlights of this year's report include:

  • Enbridge achieved our corporate target to reduce our direct Canadian greenhouse gas emissions by 15 per cent below 1990 levels.

  • Enbridge has received positive feedback in recent years for our reporting on greenhouse gas emissions from our Canadian operations. This year, for the first time, we included greenhouse gas emissions data from our Spanish investment, and it is our intention to complete an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions from our Colombian and United States operations as soon as possible.

  • The Company invested $4.5 million in charitable and non-profit groups, benefiting more than 750 organizations.

  • The inclusion of a Human Rights section of the report that outlines Enbridge's human rights efforts in Colombia and also what the Company is doing to help promote CSR practices in that country.

This year, for the first time, the Company assembled an external CSR advisory group to provide independent feedback on its report. This six-person advisory group consisted of individuals from a variety of organizations who were familiar with Enbridge and knowledgeable on a range of CSR issues. The group participated in a one-day workshop and follow-up conference call, providing input on how Enbridge could improve its report.
