CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA insurer, today released its <a href="https://csaa-insurance.aaa.com/impact" target="_blank">2023 Impact Report</a>, assessing its collective progress toward its goals for planet, people and practice and highlighting its accomplishments in these areas.

“We recognize that addressing one audience or one area in isolation may not lead to our desired outcomes,” said Mike Zukerman, CSAA’s interim president and chief executive officer. “That’s why we’ve started to employ a broader lens – total social impact – when looking at our imprint on our planet, our people, and the communities we serve as we progress on our journey in these spaces.”

Key highlights from the 2023 Impact Report include the following:

50% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions

The company’s goal of a 50% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 was achieved in 2023 – two years ahead of plan. (Note: Inclusive of Scopes 1, 2 and 3, inclusive of business travel, employee commute, work-from-home energy, and paper emissions, vs. 2016 baseline.)

Improved CDP score

For the second year, CSAA voluntarily submitted its climate journey, including its emission inventories, to the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), a not-for-profit charity that runs a global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts. CSAA scored a B for 2023, a significant improvement from its 2022 score of a C. This milestone will help the company propel its work forward and better understand its strengths and opportunities.

$25M investment in California Wildfire Innovation Fund

CSAA committed to investing $25M in the California Wildfire Innovation Fund. The company partnered with Blue Forest Asset Management, a conservation finance non-profit focused on forest restoration, to create the fund with the goal of helping protect the environment, its customers and communities. Part of the investment has been allocated to impactful projects that are helping to reduce wildfire risk while providing job opportunities in rural communities.

Go Green Benefit program

In 2023, CSAA developed the Go Green Benefit program for launch in 2024. This decarbonization strategy offers employees financial incentives to purchase green electricity for home offices, supports employees with solar energy and encourages climate-friendly commuting for in-office employees.

Milestone in representation of women

In 2023, CSAA accomplished an important milestone – representation of women at the supervisor, manager and executive levels (combined) achieved parity with the U.S. labor force. The only level below parity is the executive group, at 46%.

Climate Resiliency Challenge

In 2023, CSAA – along with design firm IDEO and professional services firm Aon, among others – launched the global Climate Resiliency Challenge. The Challenge sought solutions to help frontline communities prevent, prepare for and recover from climate-related disasters, such as wildfires, floods and extreme weather. The 2023 Impact Report features six case studies celebrating some of the Challenge winners and how their big ideas have leaned into innovation to support their communities.

CSAA Insurance Group Releases Impact Report Detailing Its Significant Initiatives and Contributions in 2023

Bloomberg published its <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/company/values/sustainability/?utm_medium=sustainability_&amp;utm_content=site-partner&amp;utm_source=OOH&amp;utm_campaign=MKTG_sustainability_GLOBAL_USA_2024&amp;tactic=848851#impact-report" target="_blank">2023 Impact Report</a>, which outlines how the company continues to address climate change through its operations, philanthropy and collaborations with partners and industry peers. The report also details how Bloomberg integrates sustainable business practices into its operations and decision-making and how it helps to drive progress in the communities where employees and clients live and work.

The report highlights Bloomberg’s latest ESG datasets, tools and research, including products that help firms assess risks and opportunities as the world transitions to a net-zero emissions economy and meet new climate-related regulatory requirements. Bloomberg also outlines its progress toward reaching its validated science-based net-zero emission reduction target by 2040, including the recent signing of an 80 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for renewable energy.

In her day-to-day work, Lina plays a fundamental role, supporting and sustaining the commercial process to promote the development of each sales opportunity, providing accompaniment to both commercial advisors and others involved. In addition, she oversees the negotiation processes with international suppliers, always maintaining a results-oriented approach, with a high level of productivity and quality in her work.

Women play a prominent role throughout the sector's value chain, which has increased in recent years. "Personally, I am optimistic about the growing presence of women in a male-dominated sector like mine. Participation not only fosters gender equality, but also enriches our work environment with a variety of perspectives and skills."

These learnings have been fundamental for my personal and professional growth in the field," said Lina.

When disaster strikes internationally, Americans want to help. While well intentioned, most people are unaware that donating material goods can hinder relief efforts by creating logistical challenges and overwhelming local infrastructure. Monetary donations to trusted organizations working on the ground helps support international disaster relief efforts and makes a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by these devastating events.  
The 2024 winning PSAs were selected from submissions received from universities and community colleges across the country in three categories: video, static image and GIFs.

Schrödinger has published its second annual Corporate Sustainability report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the company's progress developing and executing on its strategy for addressing environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters.

Doritos are delicious. Quaker Oats are nutritious. And Funyuns are... well, fun. But can snacks be sustainable? To prove they can be, PepsiCo in 2021 launched PepsiCo Positive, or pep+, a strategic initiative to put sustainability at the center of its global operations.

Leading the charge at PepsiCo Foods North America — the $26 billion snack and convenient food business that includes Frito-Lay North America and Quaker Foods North America — is Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer David Allen.

“It’s incumbent on us as a large organization with a large amount of reach to be leaders in this,” Allen explains.

A key focus of pep+ is agriculture. In 2023, PepsiCo announced a seven-year partnership with Walmart to scale water- and soil-improving regenerative agriculture practices across 2 million acres of farmland for nearly 4 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals by 2030. Eventually, farmers will adopt similar practices across the company’s entire agricultural footprint — approximately 7 million acres, Allen says.

In pursuit of net-zero emissions by 2040, PepsiCo also is working to decarbonize its fleet. Last year alone, it put into service more than 700 new electric vehicles. Meanwhile, it plans to design 100 percent of its packaging to be recyclable, compostable, biodegradable or reusable by 2025. In fact, Frito-Lay and Quaker last year opened a new “Greenhouse Learning Center” dedicated entirely to the development of compostable packaging.

Given PepsiCo’s size — more than 300,000 people operating in more than 200 countries — change won’t come easy. But it will come, Allen promises.

“We’re clear-eyed about the challenges, but I’m really excited and very optimistic about the trajectory we’re on,” he says, citing the CSO role as a key enabler. “I think of myself as being a head coach of sustainability. ... It’s about listening and learning from the diverse talent that exists within the organization, then bringing all of their ideas to bear so we can get to the best solution to make as much progress as we can, as fast as we can.”

FedEx is proud to offer direct support to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Each year the organization holds the UNCF Empower Me Tour (EMT) – a free, in-person or virtual event- established to inspire and motivate high school students, college students, and recent graduates toward academic excellence, career success, and personal responsibility. The fourth and final stop on the EMT is the national conference held in conjunction with the National Alumni Council (NAC) for HBCU graduates. This year’s conference was held February 23-25 in Jacksonville, FL, and focused on career readiness for HBCU students.

Through FedEx support of the EMT program, the UNCF was able to provide four high school students with $2,500 in scholarships at the stop in Chicago. Five college students received $2,500 in scholarships during the national conference in Jacksonville. Among the nine scholarship recipients were Diamond Knox (Lane College), DeAndrew Thomas (Dillard University), and Bernyla Sparks (Voorhees University).

Diamond Knox is a graduating senior at Lane College in Jackson, TN majoring in Business Management. She attributes her attendance at an HBCU to her older cousin who adopted her at a young age.

“This scholarship is important to me because it relieves the stress of worrying about money. With this help we can focus on our schoolwork,” said Diamond. When asked what she plans to do with the scholarship she stated, “Since I’m graduating soon, my next step is Culinary School. This scholarship will help me with my application fees and some of my tuition.”
<img alt="Headshot of a person" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="9ae376a8-5c2d-441b-94db-58c362b3fbdf" src="/sites/default/files/inline-images/Headshot-2_FedEx_040424.jpg" width="640" class="align-center" height="675" loading="lazy" />DeAndrew Thomas is currently attending Dillard University in New Orleans, LA where he is a junior majoring in English. “Last year one of my friends got the FedEx Scholarship at this conference, and I remember cheering her on and saying to myself that I hope I could get it next year,” said DeAndrew. “Here it is a year later, and I got it!” He later reflected on the untimely passing of his mother due to Covid and having the responsibility to look out for his sister, which made it difficult to find funding for his education. “I really just want to say thank you so much to FedEx, and I’m very grateful for this opportunity.”

Bernyla Sparks is a junior majoring in Computer Science at Voorhees University in Denmark, SC. “I couldn’t believe it! I was coming to tears because I couldn’t believe it! I felt like it was a blessing from God because sometimes when you feel at your lowest, somebody’s always watching and understands your struggle,” said Bernyla.

In addition to granting scholarships, FedEx also invested time into the conference FedEx Corporation Staff Vice President Donald Comer provided remarks during the Project Stay Ceremony, which is a session that focuses on charging graduating seniors to stay active and involved with their schools as upcoming HBCU alumni. During his remarks Donald stated, “At FedEx, we are intentional about stirring up good trouble, creating possibilities for you to advance toward and sustain meaningful careers and economic opportunity.”

FedEx also gained twelve HBCU students to our talent network during the career fair led by Enterprise Recruitment lead Justin Patterson and FedEx Freight recruiter Shannon Theokas.
