Corporate Social Responsibility Profile of United States Business Council for Sustainable Development

The United States Business Council for Sustainable Development (US BCSD) is a non-profit business association that provides opportunities for its members to work on authentic sustainability projects with industry, governmental and other key stakeholders who might not otherwise have the chance to collaborate and network.

The projects generate economic returns while improving the environment and society - the triple bottom line. The US Business Council is part of a network of 60 national councils worldwide, and is a partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, a global network of 200 international companies with members drawn from 30 countries and 20 major industrial sectors.

US BCSD Projects and Platforms

Sustainability 2.0: developing programs that address societal issues faced by businesses, focusing on fostering sustainable development stewardship in young people, and leveraging social media to create a new virtual community that will enrich our traditional project-driven approach.

Energy Efficiency in Buildings: creating local US projects that will allow industries, through us, to document that they can significantly reduce energy use and its associated costs in new, existing, and renovated buildings.

By-Product Synergy: matching under-valued waste or by-product streams from one facility with potential users at another facility to create new revenues or savings alongside social and environmental benefits.

Advanced Synergies: expanding the methodology and collaborative relationships gained through the BPS process to enable cities and companies to better conserve water, reduce greenhouse gases, and improve socioeconomic opportunities.

Business, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services: pursuing educational and operational activities to enhance business understanding of ecosystem services, their direct value to business, and why the global community should view better protection of biodiversity as a prudent and cost-effective investment in risk-avoidance.
