WORKPLACE VOLUNTEERING

Workplace Volunteering Online Workshop

Companies are from Mars... Nonprofits are from Venus

Tuesday, May 22, 2007
2:00pm EST – 3:00 pm EST
Online

Workplace volunteering is a growth industry. Nonprofits are looking for resources to fulfill mission-driven objectives. Why, then, are both sides sometimes frustrated when trying to work together? Are "companies from Mars and nonprofits from Venus?"

This workshop explores the issues that sometimes get in the way of effective cross-sector partnerships: goal differences, management styles, communication and more. Participants will explore ways to soften the boundaries and allow nonprofit and corporate managers of volunteers to better realize the potential to create high-impact and sustainable change in their communities.

This session helps you:

  • Gain greater understanding of mission, motivation and language issues that cause difficulty when businesses and nonprofits interact
  • Identify barriers to working across sectors and discuss solutions for greater cooperation;
  • Discuss a "model" for action and improving outcomes.

    Who should attend?

    YOU,
    if you are:

  • Managing an employee volunteer program in your workplace
  • A manager of volunteers in a nonprofit, or
    a Volunteer Center staff member working to engage business volunteers in community programs
