CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA insurer, today released its <a href="https://csaa-insurance.aaa.com/impact" target="_blank">2023 Impact Report</a>, assessing its collective progress toward its goals for planet, people and practice and highlighting its accomplishments in these areas.

“We recognize that addressing one audience or one area in isolation may not lead to our desired outcomes,” said Mike Zukerman, CSAA’s interim president and chief executive officer. “That’s why we’ve started to employ a broader lens – total social impact – when looking at our imprint on our planet, our people, and the communities we serve as we progress on our journey in these spaces.”

Key highlights from the 2023 Impact Report include the following:

50% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions

The company’s goal of a 50% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 was achieved in 2023 – two years ahead of plan. (Note: Inclusive of Scopes 1, 2 and 3, inclusive of business travel, employee commute, work-from-home energy, and paper emissions, vs. 2016 baseline.)

Improved CDP score

For the second year, CSAA voluntarily submitted its climate journey, including its emission inventories, to the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), a not-for-profit charity that runs a global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts. CSAA scored a B for 2023, a significant improvement from its 2022 score of a C. This milestone will help the company propel its work forward and better understand its strengths and opportunities.

$25M investment in California Wildfire Innovation Fund

CSAA committed to investing $25M in the California Wildfire Innovation Fund. The company partnered with Blue Forest Asset Management, a conservation finance non-profit focused on forest restoration, to create the fund with the goal of helping protect the environment, its customers and communities. Part of the investment has been allocated to impactful projects that are helping to reduce wildfire risk while providing job opportunities in rural communities.

Go Green Benefit program

In 2023, CSAA developed the Go Green Benefit program for launch in 2024. This decarbonization strategy offers employees financial incentives to purchase green electricity for home offices, supports employees with solar energy and encourages climate-friendly commuting for in-office employees.

Milestone in representation of women

In 2023, CSAA accomplished an important milestone – representation of women at the supervisor, manager and executive levels (combined) achieved parity with the U.S. labor force. The only level below parity is the executive group, at 46%.

Climate Resiliency Challenge

In 2023, CSAA – along with design firm IDEO and professional services firm Aon, among others – launched the global Climate Resiliency Challenge. The Challenge sought solutions to help frontline communities prevent, prepare for and recover from climate-related disasters, such as wildfires, floods and extreme weather. The 2023 Impact Report features six case studies celebrating some of the Challenge winners and how their big ideas have leaned into innovation to support their communities.

CSAA Insurance Group Releases Impact Report Detailing Its Significant Initiatives and Contributions in 2023

Bloomberg published its <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/company/values/sustainability/?utm_medium=sustainability_&amp;utm_content=site-partner&amp;utm_source=OOH&amp;utm_campaign=MKTG_sustainability_GLOBAL_USA_2024&amp;tactic=848851#impact-report" target="_blank">2023 Impact Report</a>, which outlines how the company continues to address climate change through its operations, philanthropy and collaborations with partners and industry peers. The report also details how Bloomberg integrates sustainable business practices into its operations and decision-making and how it helps to drive progress in the communities where employees and clients live and work.

The report highlights Bloomberg’s latest ESG datasets, tools and research, including products that help firms assess risks and opportunities as the world transitions to a net-zero emissions economy and meet new climate-related regulatory requirements. Bloomberg also outlines its progress toward reaching its validated science-based net-zero emission reduction target by 2040, including the recent signing of an 80 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for renewable energy.

In her day-to-day work, Lina plays a fundamental role, supporting and sustaining the commercial process to promote the development of each sales opportunity, providing accompaniment to both commercial advisors and others involved. In addition, she oversees the negotiation processes with international suppliers, always maintaining a results-oriented approach, with a high level of productivity and quality in her work.

Women play a prominent role throughout the sector's value chain, which has increased in recent years. "Personally, I am optimistic about the growing presence of women in a male-dominated sector like mine. Participation not only fosters gender equality, but also enriches our work environment with a variety of perspectives and skills."

These learnings have been fundamental for my personal and professional growth in the field," said Lina.

When disaster strikes internationally, Americans want to help. While well intentioned, most people are unaware that donating material goods can hinder relief efforts by creating logistical challenges and overwhelming local infrastructure. Monetary donations to trusted organizations working on the ground helps support international disaster relief efforts and makes a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by these devastating events.  
The 2024 winning PSAs were selected from submissions received from universities and community colleges across the country in three categories: video, static image and GIFs.

Schrödinger has published its second annual Corporate Sustainability report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the company's progress developing and executing on its strategy for addressing environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters.

Last year, their passion and determination caught the eye of <a href="https://www.casece.com/northamerica/en-us" target="_blank">CASE Construction Equipment</a>, a brand of <a href="https://www.cnh.com/" target="_blank">CNH</a>, offering them sponsorship. Following a year of remarkable achievements, the talented young athletes are back for a second exhilarating season, sponsored once again by CASE.

This year they are branching out and competing in the National Cross Country races in South Africa. “We have a lot to learn with Cross Country," says Ulrich. "The races are two hours long, and we have to do laps for the whole duration. It is totally different from motocross, and we are still adapting."

One of the highlights for the boys this year has been wearing the new CASE branded kit. "We helped with the design, the camo was our idea," says Ulrich. "We are proud to represent CASE," adds Deruk, expressing the sense of pride and ownership they feel as ambassadors for the brand.

"We both want to get podium finishes in at least one of the championships that we are competing in," says Deruk. With their sights set on success, Deruk and Ulrich are poised to continue their journey.

Inclusion Excellence Awards were presented at the company’s inaugural Inclusion Jamboree event at Bath &amp; Body Works’ headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. This special event celebrated diverse backgrounds, perspectives and values and brought associates together with engaging workshops, activities, recognition, music and food.

“We believe a culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging, has a chance to be heard and is valued and treated with respect makes us a smarter, stronger brand,” says Kelie Charles, Chief Diversity Officer for Bath &amp; Body Works. “This culture of belonging starts with our own associates and it’s important to recognize the outstanding work which supports and advances those efforts.”

Bath &amp; Body Works’ Inclusion Excellence Awards were presented in four categories:

LEADER: Presented to an outstanding people leader who has demonstrated excellence in inclusion.

COMMUNITY: Presented to an associate who has demonstrated inclusion excellence in the communities where our associates and customers live and work.

Michiyo Nelson, Director of Design

Michiyo Nelson led the direction and guided teams behind many of Bath &amp; Body Works’ Perfumer Series collections which included Black History Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Hispanic Heritage Month. These special product capsules spotlight professionals from historically underrepresented groups in fragrance to raise awareness of their important contributions and stories and inspire the next generation.

“The success of the perfumer series would not have existed without Michiyo's valuable knowledge and leadership,” says Charles. “She works with design associates and external perfumers from different teams and cultural backgrounds to foster a truly collaborative experience that exemplifies our commitment to diversity and inclusion.”

This group developed a quarterly newsletter which educates and informs their large team of over 100 associates about important Inclusion Resource Group (IRG) events, community volunteer opportunities and cultural celebrations. By amplifying the work of their colleagues on the DEI and IRG teams, they’ve encouraged engagement and participation amongst their team and set the stage for continued growth and learning.

“This team does an incredible job of keeping a function of 100+ associates engaged in activities that support our culture of inclusivity,” says Charles. “Through their communication efforts they build excitement for events and activities and encourage their colleagues in their learning and development as professionals.”

For decades, Bath &amp; Body Works has hired associates in their distribution center space who are English Language Learners (ELL). Selma Eltayeb took action by serving as the project lead in the development and launch of ELL classes for those associates.

“Selma is the embodiment of turning words into actions,” says Charles. “She knows firsthand the challenges of navigating a world where you are learning the language of everyone else, and she openly shares her experiences and supports others.”

Elena Scarf, Distribution Center Group Lead

Elena Scarf has made it her goal to recognize and celebrate the many diverse cultures of her department.

For example, she planned a year-end department meeting with a special potluck so associates could bring their favorite dishes to share. She incorporated music and dancing into her team’s stretching sessions before their shifts, and she decorates the Distribution Center bulletin board to celebrate holidays and other important commemorations important to her team.

“Elena is the definition of inclusion excellence,” says Charles. “She values her fellow associates’ diverse background and has created a strong, cohesive and collaborative department with her efforts.”
