The Inside Scoop on Baskin-Robbins' "Free Scoop Night"
Free Ice Cream is a Sweet Way to Support Literacy
(CSRwire) Baskin-Robbins today announced plans to scoop up summer fun during "Free
Scoop Night," on Wednesday, May 2nd from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. More than 200
scoops per second will be given out, as an expected three million
consumers stop by participating Baskin-Robbins ice cream stores nationwide
to enjoy a free scoop of their favorite ice cream flavor.
Baskin-Robbins is also continuing its commitment to promote
literacy. For every free scoop served, Baskin-Robbins will make a
donation to First Book,
a national non-profit organization that provides free, new books to
children from low-income families. DreamWorks is matching Baskin-Robbins'
Free Scoop Night donation to First Book "Free Scoop Night is a fun way to
kick-off the summer and is a sweet way to support literacy," said Joe
Adney, director of marketing for Baskin-Robbins.
"We are honored to support First Book through this event."
"Baskin-Robbins has made a terrific corporate commitment to literacy,"
said First Book President, Kyle Zimmer. "Last year's Free Scoop Night
event enabled First Book and Baskin-Robbins to provide more than 300,000
books to children across the country. We are excited to work with
Baskin-Robbins and First Book volunteers again this year, to reach even
more children together."
About First Book
Washington D.C. based First Book is a national nonprofit organization with
a single mission: to provide low-income children with their first new
books. In neighborhoods across the country, First Book Local Advisory
Boards unite leaders from all sectors of the community to provide books to
children in literacy programs, shelters, housing project initiatives, soup
kitchens, after-school programs and other community-based efforts reaching
children living below the poverty line. In 2000, First Book distributed
over 4 million books to children in more than 250 communities around the
country.
