20 Companies & Funds Push for Patient Capital
Investors' Circle Selects Companies to Present at 2007 Fall Venture Fair
(CSRwire) BOSTON, MA - October 22, 2007 - Investors' Circle is pleased to announce
the selection of the 20 companies set to present at the upcoming Fall
Conference & Venture Fair, November 14-16 at the Boston Harbor Hotel in
Boston, MA.
Investors' Circle hosts two venture fairs a year where companies who
address a social or environmental issue present to over 150 investors who
are looking for socially responsible investments. Over the past 15 years,
Investors' Circle members have invested over $112 million in 183 deals.
The Investors' Circle network has previously invested in ZipCar, Seahorse
Power Company, Niman Ranch, Equal Exchange, Virgin Money USA, Indigenous
Designs, TerraCycle and many others. Over 200 companies applied to
present at this year's Fall Conference & Venture Fair. Our selection
committee has narrowed the field to just 20 presenters, representing the
best of scalable, high-impact solutions in areas such as food & organics,
health & wellness, and energy & environment. Presenting ventures
include:
Multi-media company that creates eco-positive lifestyle content for
the rapidly growing green consumer market
A second generation venture capital fund focused on urban development
and long term capital appreciation in the U.S. eastern seaboard
A retail-direct, technical outdoor sports apparel and lifestyle
clothing company with a focus on corporate social responsibility
Commercial producer of flavorful & highly nutritive certified organic
heirloom fruits & vegetables
A clinical approach to cancer rehabilitation, integrating multiple
therapies and applicable across all cancer types
Converts waste plastic into structural products and fire retardents
to market to the railroad industry and government
Developer of proprietary modular ocean current generation
("OCGen(TM)") technology
TerraCycle's CEO, Tom Szaky said, "I owe endless gratitude to Investor's
Circle. Without their programs and investors my young company may not have
survived. They are probably the only investor group that focuses entirely
on environmental and socially beneficial companies. They realize that
there is much more to a company then a bottom line and a profit margin."
The Investors' Circle Fall Conference will take place November 14-16 at
the Boston Harbor Hotel in Boston, MA. The Venture Fair on November 15th,
open to accredited investors only, will feature 20 early-stage for-profit
companies and small funds working to solve social and environmental
problems. The Education Day on November 16th is open to all who are
interested in exploring effective ways to fund and nurture sustainable
businesses. This day will feature a discussion on Emerging Markets:
Investing to Serve the Poor and a keynote speech from Jacqueline
Novogratz of the Acumen Fund. Engage with breakout session panelists
discussing the state of double bottom line investing and enterprise
creation in the areas of energy & environment, food & organics, education
& media, health & wellness and community & international development.
