(CSRwire) VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMERIGROUP Corporation (NYSE: AGP) will host more than 50 high school students this week at its National Support Center in Virginia Beach as part of the Company's participation in National Disability Mentoring Day. The effort, presented nationally by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and locally by the Norfolk (Virginia) Public School System, involves pairing teenage students with disabilities with AMERIGROUP employees in the students' chosen areas of career interest.

National Disability Mentoring Day is Wednesday, October 17 and represents a partnership between the AAPD and the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy, as well as numerous corporations nationwide. The program began at the White House in 1999 to promote career development for students and job-seekers with disabilities through job-shadowing and hands-on career exploration.

In participating in National Disability Day, AMERIGROUP is hosting more than 50 students with disabilities from Norfolk Public Schools to the Company's headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on both October 16 and October 17. In addition to spending time with an AMERIGROUP associate in the student's requested area of interest, these high school students will learn more about potential career paths, dressing for success and job interview skills. AMERIGROUP also is hosting similar Disability Mentoring Day events at its offices in Ohio and throughout Florida.
