Jane Goodall Institute Celebrates 30th Anniversary and Launches First Annual Global Leadership Awards with Bicoastal Events

ARLINGTON, VA – September 28, 2007 - On September 28 and October 10,
2007, Dr. Jane Goodall, renowned primatologist, humanitarian, and
United Nations Messenger of Peace will honor organizations and individuals
sharing her vision and commitment to making a positive difference in the
world with the Jane Goodall Institute’s first annual Global
Leadership Awards. Exclusive, eco-friendly bicoastal events are being
held to recognize the inaugural award recipients; directly benefit the
venerated programs of the Jane Goodall Institute; and celebrate the
Institute’s three decades of groundbreaking research, conservation, and
global youth leadership.

Ed Begley, Jr., star of stage and screen and leading Hollywood
environmental activist, will emcee the Los Angeles event on Friday,
September 28, 2007 at the California Science Center’s Wallis Annenberg
Building. Begley’s new HGTV reality show, “Living with Ed,” is a
first-of-its-kind unscripted docu-soap about the lifestyle of a diehard
environmental activist who puts his money and his time where his mouth is.
Begley is actively involved with the Environmental Media Association, the
Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, the Thoreau Institute, the Earth
Communications Office, Tree People, and Friends of the Earth, among
others. His efforts have been recognized by some of the most prestigious
environmental groups in the nation, including the California League of
Conservation Voters, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Coalition
for Clean Air, Heal the Bay, and the Santa Monica Baykeeper.
Jeff Corwin, wildlife biologist and Emmy Award-winning television host,
will emcee the Washington, DC event on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the
Andrew Mellon Auditorium. Animal Planet audiences best know Jeff from
“The Jeff Corwin Experience,” and “Corwin’s Quest,” two of the
most popular shows on cable television. The programs reach more than 13
million viewers in the United States and are viewed in more than 70
countries worldwide.
