Green-E Certifies SUEZ's Renewable Energy Certificates
Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Customers Can Purchase Certified Renewable Energy Certificates From SUEZ Energy Resources NA
(CSRwire) SAN FRANCISCO, CA - September 10, 2007 - The Center for Resource Solutions
announced today that renewable energy certificates (RECs) offered by SUEZ
Energy Resources are now eligible to be Green-e certified. SUEZ Energy
Resources, the retail energy business of SUEZ Energy North America, will
join the network of renewable energy providers that offer products
certified by Green-e, the nation's leading certification and verification
program for renewable energy.
With its Green-e certification, SUEZ Energy Resources can now use the
official Green-e logo, the nationally recognized symbol for certified
renewable energy. The Green-e logo identifies superior, certified
renewable energy options, and is used by businesses to communicate the
purchase and/or generation of certified renewable energy. Customers can
use the Green-e logo to quickly identify renewable energy options that
meet Green-e's high standards. The Green-e logo is a symbol of the
commitment to the high standard of renewable energy Green-e supports, and
SUEZ Energy Resources is committed to providing.
"Approximately two percent of electricity is generated from renewable
resources, such as wind and solar power, which have less of an
environmental impact," said Michel Sirat, president and CEO, SUEZ Energy
Resources. "SUEZ Energy Resources is excited to participate in this
important program where we will provide our customers with certified
renewable resources, ultimately better serving our environment."
One REC represents the attributes associated with one-megawatt hour of
energy from a renewable source. Energy consumed through a renewable source
equals less environmental waste, and customers who purchase RECs benefit by
displacing other non-renewable sources from the electric grid.
"We are pleased to welcome SUEZ Energy Resources as a participant in the
Green-e Renewable Energy Certification Program," said Lars Kvale, Green-e
analyst. "The purchase of Green-e certified RECs from SUEZ Energy
Resources will enable commercial and institutional customers nationwide to
reduce the environmental impact of the electricity they demand."
The renewable energy certificates available to commercial, industrial and
institutional customers through SUEZ Energy Resources come from a variety
of Green-e eligible renewable resources in the United States. By
purchasing RECs from SUEZ Energy Resources, customers will support these
nationwide resources as well as aid in the development of new renewable
resources to be built in the U.S.
The Green-e program is the leading renewable energy certification and
verification program in the U.S., with over 150 participating vendors who
sold over five million MWhs of renewable energy in 2005. The program
provides independent, third party certification to ensure certified
renewable energy meets strict environmental and consumer protection
standards.
Through the display and recognition of the Green-e logo, the national
symbol for renewable energy excellence, a growing number of consumers are
able to easily identify high quality, certified renewable energy options,
as well as everyday consumer products that are produced by companies that
use renewable energy in their operations.
Providers of Green-e certified renewable energy agree to abide by the
Green-e Code of Conduct, and meet strict Green-e disclosure and
truth-in-advertising requirements. All Green-e marketers undergo an annual
verification audit to document that the company purchased and/or generated
enough quantity and type of renewable energy to meet customer demand and
marketing claims.
