Dell Extends Commitment to Develop Most Energy-Efficient Products in the Industry
Company to Complete Energy Star 4.0 Compliance Ahead of July Deadline
(CSRwire) ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2007--Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) today
is extending its commitment to deliver the most energy-efficient products
in the industry with configurations of its OptiPlex(TM) 745 and 740
corporate desktops designed to meet Energy Star 4.0 requirements.
The company also said that it expects to be one of the first in the
industry to complete its Energy Star 4.0 compliance work across multiple
systems within its commercial desktops, notebooks and workstations product
lines before the July 2007 deadline. In the coming weeks, Dell will offer
configurations of Dell Precision(TM) workstations that meet the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements. In addition, the
recently announced Latitude(TM) D830, D630 and D531 notebook systems are
also available with a broad selection of configurations that are also
compliant.
"Dell is committed to delivering the most energy-efficient products in
the industry and we see Energy Star 4.0 as a new minimum requirement," said
Margaret Franco, director, Dell Product Group. "Our mission is to deliver
the most energy efficient products, along with software and power
management tools. This combination, which we call Dell Energy Smart, is
where we will help customers cut energy consumption and save millions per
year in their overall computing environments."
Dell Precision, Latitude, and OptiPlex systems feature
factory-configured Dell Energy Smart power settings designed to offer
customers maximum power savings. Energy Smart configurations on OptiPlex
desktops have been available since September 2006 and when combined with
an Energy Star compliant configuration, a system can exceed EPA energy
requirements.
The OptiPlex Energy Smart 745 and 740 feature 80 percent efficient
power supplies that enable more efficient energy consumption management.
Configured with flat panel monitors, these systems can help customers save
up to 77 percent in power consumption compared to previous generation
systems when combined with Energy Smart power settings(1).
Last month, the company enhanced its Dell Energy Smart solutions with
the Dell PowerEdge(TM) Energy Smart 2970 server, which helps customers
decrease power consumption and reduce overall operating costs within the
data center. The PowerEdge Energy Smart 2970 can deliver up to 25 percent
greater performance per watt while reducing power consumption by up to 21
percent compared to standard PowerEdge 2970 Servers(2).
When combined with client Energy Smart solutions, Dell enterprise
customers can potentially save millions of dollars in large data center
and client deployments.
Dell also offers easy-to-use online calculators and planners at www.dell.com/energy
to estimate and manage power needs. Customers can find an energy
calculator for Dell commercial products, to help measure and assess
potential impact to their power bills and carbon footprint.

comparing an OptiPlex GX620 with a 17" CRT monitor, Intel Pentium D
processor and no power management settings to an OptiPlex 745 Energy Star
4.0 compliant system with a 17" flat panel monitor, Intel Core 2 Duo
processor, and power management settings enabled; comparison assumes
Annual Usage Profiles of 1 hour max performance, 7 hours office
