Dorel Juvenile Group Launches Innovative, Eco-Friendly Car Seat Carry Bag
(CSRwire) CANTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2007--Dorel Juvenile Group USA, a
part of Dorel Industries Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A), is set to launch the
Cosco(R) Scenera(TM) convertible car seat packaged in the first-ever
eco-friendly travel and storage bag - available at Wal-Mart. The
patent-pending carry bag was designed largely in an effort to help
conserve natural paper resources. It replaces the standard large
corrugated box, saving an estimated 2,700-plus trees a year.
"Developing the idea of a car seat carry bag, from concept to reality,
was both a packaging challenge and a team effort. Working with our
manufacturing and marketing teams, we tested a number of designs and
materials over a period of two years. The end result was a design that has
great benefits for the consumer, the environment and our company," said
Dorel Juvenile Group's package engineer and designer of the bag, David
Foster. "We have eliminated over 65 tons of paperboard waste and cut
warehouse and transportation costs by 33 percent, while giving the
consumer the added value of a reusable carry bag, at no additional
cost."
The Cosco(R) Scenera(TM), available in May at Wal-Mart, is a
convertible car seat designed to fit children 5-35 lbs. rear-facing and
22-40 lbs. forward-facing. Its new travel and storage bag features a
handle and will also soon feature an ID tag so consumer travel with the
seat is easier. The car seat is also now easily visible to consumers as a
result of the clear packaging and is protected during storage.
"This unique design has enabled us to fit more product when shipping,
saving on diesel fuel and reducing greenhouse gases," said Dorel Juvenile
Group's director of marketing for car seats, David Amirault. "The reduced
size of the package also frees up valuable warehouse space."
The Cosco Scenera convertible car seat features a 5-point internal
harness system with four harness locations that are height adjustable to
fit a growing child, and an up-front harness adjustment, making it easier
to get a snug fit. It can be installed using a vehicle's LATCH system or
the vehicle's seat belt in both the rear- and forward-facing
modes. The seat also includes a detachable cup holder for spill-free
riding. It retails for $49.84.
