For Fairmount Minerals, one of the nation’s largest producers of industrial sand, sustainable development has been a coalescing force. With twelve Sustainable Development Initiative Teams focused on various aspects of sustainability – Environmental Products and Processes, Social Responsibility, and Health and Wellness, to name a few – the company has relied on dedicated employees (the Fairmount Minerals family members) to initiate and drive sustainable projects.

Key achievements detailed in the 2006 report include:

Development of new technology to significantly reduce phenol and ammonia emissions in the resin-coating process.

Working with BrownFlynn, a corporate responsibility consulting firm, Fairmount Minerals is one of few U.S. companies to receive Global Reporting Initiative Application Level C status verification with its 2006 report. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact since August 2006, the Corporate Social Responsibility Report will also fulfill Fairmount Minerals’ commitment to communicating progress.
