(CSRwire) April 19, 2007 - Aracruz Celulose has published its 2006 Annual and Sustainability Report, the 10th time the company has reported on its economic, social and environmental issues. This year, the Sustainability and Annual reports have been integrated into a single publication, which can be accessed and downloaded via http://www.reportalert.info/ra/Aracruz190407.htm.

The report documents financial success within the sector and by the company, together with environmental investments of USD16m to improve operations. Aracruz increased its preservation areas by 15,000 hectares during 2006 and is now responsible for over 154,000 hectares of native forest reserves. However, the report also documents the social tensions caused by pressure on resources, and reports on a land dispute with indigenous communities and the steps taken towards resolution.

The report has been independently verified by Bureau Veritas Certification, and has two additional evaluations by external environmental and sustainability experts.

For the second year, readers' comments from a stakeholder evaluation have been included, comments which have helped shape the development of the report.

For the first time an index both for the Global Reporting Initiative and the UN Global Compact is included, keeping Aracruz at the forefront of reporting best practice.
