Shaklee Corporation Receives Earth Day 2000 Award

(CSRwire) Earth Day New York today presented Shaklee Corporation with the Earth Day 2000 Environmental Business Leadership Award. The presentation took place during the opening ceremony of Earth Fair 2000 in New York City's Historic Battery Park.

The Environmental Business Leadership Award was bestowed on consumer products marketer Shaklee Corporation in recognition of the company's track record of environmental responsibility. Shaklee recently became the nation's first Climate Neutral™ certified company by offsetting the greenhouse gas emissions for its entire enterprise.

"Shaklee's Climate Neutral certification represents a groundbreaking development in the U.S. corporate community's response to tackling global climate change," said Charles L. Orr, President and CEO of Shaklee Corporation, upon accepting the award. "We are honored by Earth Day New York's recognition of our achievement."

Earth Day New York, a founding member of the national organization Earth Day Network, began its environmental mission with the first Earth Day celebration in 1970. Since 1998, the organization has annually recognized environmental excellence in four categories: Public Official of the Year; Environmental Business Leadership; Excellence in Environmental Journalism; and Activist of the Year.

Founded in 1956, Shaklee Corporation is an innovative global marketing company with a long history of caring about community and environmental issues. A diversified consumer products company, Shaklee is a leader in nutrition and has developed a skin care line with two patents that help to counter the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation and free radicals.

In 1989, Shaklee was purchased as a wholly-owned subsidiary by Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., one of the largest and most profitable pharmaceutical companies in Japan. The combination of the two firms has created a global entity on the cutting edge of science and technology, offering high quality products that continue Shaklee's tradition of health, wellness and sensitivity to the environment.
