Presto and USA Cares Enable Military Service Men and Women To Connect with Their Moms and Grandmas for Mother's Day

Presto Donates Five Hundred Mother's Day Gifts to Military Moms

(CSRwire) MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA/LOUISVILLE, KY. – April 17, 2006 – Presto Services Inc. (www.presto.com) has partnered with USA Cares (www.usacares.us), a leading military charitable organization, to help members of the military stay in touch with their mothers and grandmothers on Mother’s Day and throughout the year. Presto, which enables users to receive email and photos without a computer or Internet connection, is working with USA Cares to distribute a donation of 500 HP Printing Mailboxes and Presto Service subscriptions to mothers and grandmothers of service members.

Training, temporary duty, and deployment are factors of military life that cause distance between service members and their loved ones. Nearly all military personnel use email at their bases, and even service members deployed in remote locations and Navy ships at sea can obtain email access. While many families increasingly depend on email to stay in touch, about three out of four mothers (76%) and more than half of grandmothers (60%) agreed that advancements in technology such as cell phones and email sometimes leave the older generations feeling left out, according to a recent survey commissioned by Presto and conducted by Harris Interactive®.

Additional survey findings revealed that, when asked what they would prefer on Mother's Day, eight out of 10 mothers (80%) and three out of four grandmothers (74%) said they would prefer to spend time with family. To help bridge this distance when families can't be together, Presto and USA Cares have teamed up to give mothers and grandmothers of our men and women in uniform a special Mother’s Day gift – a simple way to keep in touch with Presto Mail.

"We set up a Presto account for my mother, and her response has been even better than any of us thought," said LTC Joseph T. Page Jr., USA (Ret). "She's been receiving a relatively constant email stream of letters and photos from friends and family, literally throughout the world, including updates ranging from Patch Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany to Pearl Harbor in Hawaii."

The Presto Service delivers email and photos from any email program, mobile phone, or PDA to the HP Printing Mailbox via a regular phone line. With Presto, there’s no need for a computer or Internet connection. The Presto Service converts regular email and photo attachments into Presto Mail—beautiful, easy-to-read color printouts that are automatically delivered to the HP Printing Mailbox. It's just like letters delivered to the traditional mailbox.

"Military families back home wait patiently for updates and communication from their loved ones stationed out of state or overseas," said Barbra Yaw, Communications Director for USA Cares. "Working with Presto to help moms and grandmas connect with their Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines via Presto Mail could be the ultimate Mother’s Day gift."

"Initial feedback from military personnel using Presto Mail inspired us to make the donation," said Raymond Stern, President and CEO of Presto. "Presto is dedicated to helping families and friends stay connected and share everyday moments, so we are delighted to work with USA Cares to make it easy for military personnel to keep in touch with folks back home."

The first 500 active members of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines who sign up at www.USACares.us will be able to send their mother or grandmother an HP Printing Mailbox and three-month Presto Service subscription for Mother’s Day, courtesy of Presto.

About the Survey
Harris Interactive conducted this survey on behalf of Presto Services Inc. by telephone within the United States between March 22 and March 25, 2007 among 1,016 adults (aged 18 and over). Figures for age, sex, geographic region, and race were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population.

With a pure probability sample of 1,016 one could say with a ninety-five percent probability that the overall results have a sampling error of +/- 3 percentage points. Sampling error for the sub-samples of mothers (n= 325) and grandmothers (n= 229) may be higher and would vary. However that does not take other sources of error into account.
