Dell, EPA To Host Earth Day Computer Recycling Drive
Washington, D.C., Event Scheduled Sunday, April 22
(CSRwire) WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 2007--Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) and the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host an Earth Day computer
recycling event for consumers in the Washington metropolitan area Sunday,
April 22. The free event is part of the company's commitment to educating
consumers about responsible computer recycling options and keeping
information technology equipment out of landfills.
"We cannot think of a better day or more appropriate place to partner with
consumers and make a difference for the environment," said Joe Strathmann,
Dell senior manager of asset recovery services. "Through public-private
partnerships and initiatives, we are sending a clear message that no
computer should go to waste."
Washington, D.C.-area residents can recycle any brand computer, monitor,
printer and other computer equipment by dropping off the items at the
event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. EDT. Consumers are advised to remove all data
from hard drives and any removable media such as disks, PC cards, flash
drives and CD-ROMs. Televisions, stereo equipment and other electronic
appliances will not be accepted.
"This event provides D.C.-area residents an easy opportunity to recycle
unwanted computers and help protect the environment," said Molly O'Neill,
Assistant Administrator for the Office of Environmental Information and
Chief Information Officer. "Dell's commitment to corporate citizenship
sets an example for other businesses to follow."
The event is also being supported by the National Recycling Coalition and
TechTurn. TechTurn will process the electronics equipment dropped off
during the event. Consumers can access the site at 13th and E Streets,
N.W.
Since 2003, Dell has partnered with several community-based organizations
to support or host similar events in markets including Paris, France;
Sydney, Australia; New York, Nashville and Oklahoma City.
Dell completed a rollout of its global recycling program in December 2006
and remains the only company in its industry to offer consumers free and
convenient product recycling worldwide, irrespective of product purchase.
The company has a goal to recover 125 million kilograms (about 275 million
pounds) of product from customers by 2009.
