Christine Ervin Named Editor at Large for Greener World Media
Former Assistant Secretary of Energy and U.S. Green Building Council President to Contribute Counsel, Columns to Online Media Properties
(CSRwire) OAKLAND, CA - April 3, 2007 - Greener World Media, publisher of
GreenBiz.com and other online media focusing on business and the
environment, has announced that Christine Ervin has been named Editor at
Large.
Ervin, former Assistant Secretary of Energy for Energy Efficiency and
Renewables, and President and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council
during the creation of the LEED® green-building standard, will provide
both editorial and strategic guidance to the company.
Ervin is widely credited for being a major force in transforming the
building industry in the U.S. toward sustainable practices. During her
five-year tenure at the USGBC, LEED became the de facto standard for
certified green buildings and professional accreditation, while Council
membership and resources grew twenty-fold. Previously, she was appointed
by President Clinton to serve as Assistant Secretary of Energy for the
nation’s $1 billion portfolio of clean-energy technologies, a post she
assumed after leading Oregon's Department of Energy. For nearly 20 years,
she has championed strategies to better reflect environmental costs and
benefits in private markets - a focus which continues in her
Portland-based consultancy and speaking engagements.
During her tenure at the USGBC, Ervin forged a partnership with
GreenBiz.com to create GreenerBuildings.com, now the leading resource
center on environmentally responsible building development.
In her new role, Ervin will contribute regular columns to GreenerBuildings
as well as GWM's other sites and newsletters, and will provide strategic
counsel to GWM's editorial and publishing staff.
"Christine's knowledge and network in the areas of sustainable buildings
and clean energy are unsurpassed," says Joel Makower, GWM's Chairman and
Executive Editor. "We look forward to working with her to extend our reach
in bringing insight, inspiration, and hands-on resources to the mainstream
business audience."
"Never before have businesses faced such a confluence of market
opportunity and compelling need to green their bottom line," says Ervin.
"I'm truly excited about the role Greener World Media can play in
accelerating sustainable market transformation and a low-carbon
economy."
"Greener World Media's vision is to assemble the best minds in green
business," says Pete May, GWM's President and CEO. "We can think of no one
more qualified than Christine."
Greener World Media is the first media company focused exclusively on the
greening of mainstream business and technology. Centered around the
acclaimed Greenbiz.com
web site, its products also include Greenbiz.com, GreenerBuildings.com ClimateBiz.com, and the
weekly e-newsletter GreenBuzz.
