AnazaoHealth Teddy Bears are 'Making It Bearable For Kids™'
(CSRwire) TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2007--The Nuclear Medicine division
of AnazaoHealth® Corporation compounds many preparations to deal with
the pain of illness and difficult medical procedures. Today, the company
is proud to announce a new program for the littlest patients in hospitals
receiving I-123 MIBG, a preparation, used primarily to diagnosis the
presence and location of neuroblastomas in children. AnazaoHealth
Corporation's 'Making It Bearable For Kids Program™' will present a
6 1/2" teddy bear to each child patient receiving the I-123 MIBG doses for
a little added comfort as he or she goes through diagnosis and
treatment.
Neuroblastoma is a form of cancer that occurs in infants and young
children. It is rarely found in children older than 10 years old. The
cells of this cancer usually resemble very primitive developing nerve
cells found in an embryo or fetus. MIBG (metaiodobenzylguanidine) is a
biotracer that is combined with radioactive iodine to form either
123I-iobenguane metaiodobenzylguanidine, I-123 MIBG, or 131I-iobenguane
metaiodobenzylguanidine, I-131 MIBG. The biotracer, MIBG, has a natural
affinity and travels to certain parts of the body, phaeochromocytomas,
neuroblastomas, and the nerves of the heart. It is combined with
radioactive iodine so that the imaging camera will "pick it up" and an
image will be produced.
"The teddy bears can be a crucial diversion tool," said Samantha Platt,
Director, Sales & Marketing at AnazaoHealth. "The children can be
subjected to lengthy scans performed multiple days in a row, Ms. Platt
noted, "and by providing the bears to the hospitals to distract, comfort
and occupy the children during their imaging procedures, we may assist in
decreasing their fears and encouraging a feeling of wellness."
"We are extremely pleased to be able to continue our commitment to the
hospital communities we work with and provide the teddy bears," stated
Kevin Boyd, RPh., Nuclear Pharmacy Manager of AnazaoHealth. "Monday
through Wednesdays we receive prescriptions for I-123 MIBG and each dose
for a child is sent with a bear. We thank the hospital staffs for 'paying
forward' the bears to the patients in their time of need."
