Marriott Honored with 2007 Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(CSRwire) WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 21, 2007 – Marriott International, Inc.
(NYSE:MAR) announced today that it is the first lodging company to receive
the 2007 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). Marriott is being recognized in an awards ceremony
tonight for its continued leadership in protecting the environment through
energy management.
Since 2004, Marriott has received the Partner of the Year Award for
Excellence in Energy Management, and awarded more ENERGY STAR labels (160)
than any other hotel company. After much success with energy-saving
programs like Linen Reuse, Group ReLamp and the replacement of
showerheads, light fixtures and more, Marriott has plans to certify
eighty-five additional Marriott hotels with the ENERGY STAR label this
year.
"Marriott is an outstanding leader in protecting our environment through
energy efficiency," said Bill Wehrum, acting assistant administrator for
EPA's Office of Air and Radiation. "As one of the 2007 ENERGY STAR
Sustained Excellence winners, Marriott has taken energy efficiency to new
heights year after year and we all benefit."
In 2005, Marriott proactively joined the prestigious EPA's Climate Leaders
as the next step in its six-year partnership with ENERGY STAR. As a Climate
Leader, Marriott made a commitment to reduce greenhouse gases by 40,000
tons annually. Earlier this year, Marriott announced it has surpassed its
goal in 2006 and reduced its greenhouse gases by 70,000 tons.
