HP and CARE Continue Relationship to Bring the "I Am Powerful" Campaign to Life at UN
HP extends partnership to document CARE's humanitarian work throughout the world
(CSRwire) ATLANTA, GA and PALO ALTO, CA - February 13, 2007 – CARE, the
international humanitarian and development organization, announced today
that partner HP will sponsor a new photo exhibit I Am Powerful: A
Celebration of Women’s Potential. The collection of photos of women
in the developing world is on display at the United Nations Headquarters in
New York through March 31.
The exhibit is comprised of more than 50 breathtaking images of CARE's
poverty-fighting work. CARE works in approximately 70 countries to
empower women and their communities to overcome extreme poverty. With
projects that address a variety of critical issues including maternal
health, clean water, education, and microfinance, CARE's work helped
approximately 50 million people worldwide last year. The women and girls
featured in the color, black & white, and sepia photos from the I Am
Powerful exhibit take part in CARE's work. The photos were produced
with the new HP Designjet Z3100 Photo Printer series - the latest
introduction to HP's portfolio of professional photography printers.
"The United Nations exhibit gives CARE a tremendous platform for a call to
action to people in the U.S. to address global poverty," said Deb Neuman,
CARE senior vice president of External Relations. "It is such a fitting
venue to illustrate how women are disproportionately impacted by poverty,
but are also uniquely capable of being conduits for change within their
families and communities."
The exhibit is an extension of the CARE and HP partnership which began in
the summer of 2006 with a global photography program in which HP and CARE
sent five photographic teams, each composed of one renowned photographer
and an advanced photography student, to travel to different regions of the
world to expose the groundbreaking work of CARE's "I Am Powerful"
campaign. The images taken during the expeditions are featured in the I
Am Powerful exhibit.
"At HP, we are pleased to use our innovative printing technology to
showcase the remarkable work CARE is doing throughout the world," said
Walt Sledzieski, large format business unit manager, HP. "We are delighted
to continue our collaboration with CARE to expose new audiences to CARE's
work to empower women in the fight against poverty, while also
demonstrating HP's excellence in professional photo printing."
The exhibit also features Women Empowered, an exhibition and book
by internationally acclaimed photographer Phil Borges, who began
documenting CARE's humanitarian work in 2004 and participated in the photo
shoot for the HP and CARE program.
"The partnership between HP and CARE has elevated the 'I Am
Powerful' campaign to great heights, and I was thrilled to have an
opportunity to work with HP on the launch of Women Empowered at the
UN," said Phil Borges. "I was ecstatic to see the quality and accuracy of
the prints that came off the HP Designjet Z3100 photo printer. HP
technology helps us tell the stories of women from around the world."
The HP Designjet Z Photo Printer Series, offered in 8-ink and 12-ink
models, expands HP's professional printing portfolio for creative
professionals with an automated, intuitive experience in image
reproduction. Combining HP Vivera pigment ink technology and the
industry's first-ever embedded spectrophotometer, the HP Designjet Z
Series produces exquisite, museum-quality photographs and delivers
unprecedented photo permanence - up to 200 years - on a wide variety of
media.
