Wal-Mart Employees Donate Grant to USA Cares
Employees vote to donate Holiday Grant to charity for military
(CSRwire) RADCLIFF, KY- January 9, 2006 - A surprise awaited Michelle Anderson, a
Family Resource Coordinator for USA Cares, a military focused charity
headquartered outside historic Fort Knox, when she arrived at the Radcliff
Wal-Mart for her daily trip to purchase gift cards.
Customer service at the Radcliff Wal-Mart Supercenter #1165 was ready with
a check written to USA Cares for $1500 dollars. An overwhelming majority of
employees voted for giving USA Cares the grant. This is in addition to
other gifts given in past years.
Jeff Wilson, Store manager said, “USA Cares is a great organization, and
we at the Radcliff Wal-Mart Supercenter are proud to contribute to them.
This is just one way that we can thank and show our appreciation to the
community that supports us day in and day out.”
“The philosophy of Wal-Mart has not changed,” continued Wilson. “Sam
Walton’s belief was to support the community that we live in. We are very
fortunate a large percentage of our community and associates are connected
to the Military in some way.”
“With its extensive locations, the availability of everything from
vehicle tires to baby formula, Wal-Mart was the best choice for a source
of access nationwide, even our clients in Alaska have a Wal-Mart,” said
Barbra Yaw, Communications Director for USA Cares. “ Their willingness
to wire gift cards nationwide assists in emergency situations, and has
been lifesaver for several military families with quality of life
needs,” added Yaw. “ The goodness from Wal-Mart and its employees
continues to support USA Cares and its mission to aid military Service
members and their families.”
USA Cares has done over $100,000 worth of business with Wal-Mart
nationwide in 2006 using Wal-Mart gift cards as one of many ways of
assisting Service members and military family clients. USA Cares has
granted over $2.2 million dollars to military families and Service members
in need since its inception in 2003, topping the scales at 4500 cases at
the end of 2006.
