ICMM Releases its Latest Newsletter, 'Safety in the Workplace'
(CSRwire) ICMM has released the latest issue of its newsletter with a health
and safety theme. Helping our members improve their safety and health
initiatives is a priority for ICMM. To help achieve this we are organizing
an international conference focusing on safety and health, to be held on
14-16 November 2006 in Johannesburg.
In this issue, we also look at how Lonmin's South African platinum mining
operations have embarked on a "Wellness" initiative to address the stigma
associated with HIV infection and AIDS.
Elsewhere, Carmel Bofinger, Acting Director of the University of
Queensland's Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre (MISHC), outlines
the development of MIRMgate, which is a web-based tool to help companies
manage risk. And Anglo American Head of Occupational Health Dr Frank Fox
examines how ICMM is encouraging regulatory bodies to take a more
consistent approach to setting Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) and
reports progress on a number of fronts.
The newsletter can be viewed on the ICMM website at
