Economie Teams with Global Dialogue Center
Economie provides delegates with the chance to meet eco6 speakers prior to the event
(CSRwire) London - economie, the international organisation dedicated to the
education, promotion and development of Socially Responsible Investment
(SRI) worldwide, today announced that it has partnered with Global
Dialogue Center (GDC) to bring delegates to eco6 an opportunity to meet
the keynote speakers prior to October's event. eco6 is economie's
flagship annual conference aimed at raising global awareness and transform
attitudes towards the fast growing economic movements of SRI and Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR).
The eco6 Speakers' Dialogue will be online in the first week of October
and is a virtual gathering of several keynote speakers: SRI maven Amy
Domini; futurist John Renesch; Islamic fund manager Dr. Humayon Dar; AIG's
Dr. Julia Balandina; and SRI pioneer Brian Harrison Spence. Scheduled to
last about one hour, the speakers will share perspectives on two questions
during the dialogue:
What is the future of the socially responsible movement, in management and
investing?
What is your role in bringing about this future?
It will be recorded in September at the Global Dialogue Center (GDC),
powered by Microsoft Office Live Meeting technology. The dialogue will be
produced and showcased at the GDC, a virtual gathering place for people
throughout the world. Debbie Kennedy, GDC's founder, is serving as host
for this global conversation.
In separate news, economie announces a new exhibitor to eco6, Rosia
Montana Gold Corporation (RMGC). Minvest S.A., a government-owned mining
company, currently operates an open-pit mine in Rosia Montana, Romania.
Using outdated mining practices and dependent on state subsidies that do
not meet EU practices, Minvest must close the mine no later than December
2006 as a condition of Romania's application for entry into the European
Union January 1, 2007, leaving many of Rosia Montana's 1,000 inhabitants
jobless and destitute unless mining continues under private ownership.
In place of the state-subsidized Minvest S.A., the Canadian company of
Gabriel Resources - principal owner of the mineral rights through its
Romanian subsidiary, the Rosia Montana Gold Corporation (RMGC) - proposes
to conduct new mining operations on a larger scale.
The company will apply modern extraction methods demonstrated elsewhere to
be both profitable and far less harmful to land and water, and also
undertake a full-scale ecological reclamation project unprecedented in the
region. These efforts will restore lands affected and also water systems
harmed over decades of negligence by state-run mining.
"We are delighted to have RMGC join us in Zurich. This is an excellent
development and illustrates how all aspects of sustainable activities are
important to our members - not solely SRI." said Brian Harrison Spence,
economie founder.
Also, announced today is a new campaign that will be launched at eco6.
economie has teamed with Orell Fussli to support LUCITA in the launch of a
fund to support the ongoing reconstruction and rejuvenation in Southeast
Asian communities hit by the Tsunami in December 2004.
LUCITA has produced a series of intense and insightful images depicting
the reconstruction and the rebuilding efforts that are now proceeding.
These images will be for sale at eco6 via the Orell Fussli stand, in their
shops and eventually online on www.eco6.co.uk.
The images will be available in the form of postcards, calendars and
specially selected posters and limited edition fine prints, printed by
environmentally responsible printing houses in Europe and the US.
Once production costs have been covered all the funds raised will go
directly to the fund managed by the LUCITA Foundation.
Those interested in sponsoring this to cover the production costs, please
contact, Gwyn Jones at:
gwyn@economie.co.uk.
economie has also announced the winners of the international eco6 student
essay competition. economie invited students to write an essay on the
topics that are at the heart of the eco6 conference:
Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) - just another marketing ploy?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - fact or fiction?
economie has announced that the following students have won and each will
attend eco6 to meet with the international SRI and CSR experts gathered
there.
Mathias Weis, St. Gallen, Switzerland
Pierre Blanc, Toulouse, France
Hamid Hakim Tenywa, Uganda
