United Technologies Corp. Supports China's Ministry of Construction In Promoting Sustainable Development by China's Building Industry
(CSRwire) Beijing- United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) and China's Ministry
of Construction (MOC) signed a memorandum of understanding today to work
together to promote sustainable development of Chinese buildings and
cities.
The two pledged to strengthen cooperation by conducting exchanges and
working together in the area of construction science and technology,
including conducting joint research. The document was signed today at
Beijing's International Convention Center by UTC Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer George David and by China's Vice Minister of
Construction Qiu Baoxing.
Among the commitments in the memorandum are:
61607; UTC will continue its sponsorship of the MOC's annual
International Green & Intelligent Building Conference & Exposition.
61607; UTC will assist MOC with technical and international exchanges,
cooperation and training in the areas of construction science and
technology, research and standards development.
61607; UTC will participate in MOC-sponsored energy conservation
demonstration and pilot projects.
61607; UTC and MOC will hold annual, senior-level meetings to review
progress in bilateral cooperation.
For several years UTC and its business units have supported China's
efforts to promote green building technologies and sustainable
development. UTC's Otis unit is the first elevator company to receive a
Green Product Award from the China Environmental Protection Foundation.
Otis' Gen2 belted, machine-roomless elevator system was identified
as the "green machine" in 2005. Also, UTC's Carrier unit has sponsored the
China Ozone Layer Protection Awards Program, hosted by the State
Environmental Protection Administration of China, recognizing Chinese
individuals and organizations making outstanding contributions to ozone
layer protection.
The MOC is the central Chinese government regulator of the construction
and real estate sectors as well as urban planning and infrastructures.
