Imperial Oil Contributes Over $3.0 million to the United Way-Centraide
Employees and retirees help to raise over $365,000 more than in 2004
(CSRwire) Imperial Oil Limited is pleased to announce the company, in
partnership with its employees and retirees, contributed more than $3.0
million to the 2005 United Way-Centraide campaigns across Canada. The
total contribution increased by $365,600 from $2.65 million in 2004.
"The tireless efforts and generosity of thousands of Imperial Oil
employees and retirees are making a tangible difference in all of our
communities," said Tim Hearn, chairman, president and chief executive
officer of Imperial Oil. "Our company has a strong history of contributing
to United Way-Centraide and we are proud to complete our most successful
campaign yet."
Imperial's 2005 campaign involved numerous innovative employee campaign
activities from coast to coast such as participating in Days of Caring
projects, canoe races, hosting bake sales and coordinating a clothing
drive.
In addition, on September 10, 2005, 412 Esso-branded retail gasoline sites
in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax participated
in Driving the Way. On this day Imperial committed one cent of every litre
sold to support United Way-Centraide programs and raised $140,000
Canada-wide.
"The United Way funds raised in 2005 by Imperial Oil will help find
solutions to community problems in neighbourhoods across Canada and will
support thousands of people in need," said Monica Samper, president of the
Imperial Oil Foundation.
United Way-Centraide is a non-profit organization located in 125 Canadian
centres. Each United Way-Centraide works locally to find solutions to
community problems by mobilizing volunteers, identifying community needs
and raising and distributing funds. The money raised this year will help
children and youth, senior citizens in need, families and abused women,
disabled and homeless people as well as newcomers to Canada.
Imperial Oil has been a proud part of Canada for 126 years, contributing
to communities from coast to cost since its inception in 1880. That
tradition of giving continues today and in 2005, Imperial contributed more
than $12.0 million to 500 organizations across Canada with an emphasis on
youth, education and important community services.
