SC Johnson Launches Website Devoted to Company's Efforts to Build Economic, Environmental and Social Value
(CSRwire) Racine, Wis. - Emphasizing corporate responsibility as fundamental
to its business, S. C. Johnson & Son, Inc. has established a website
devoted exclusively to the company's expansive sustainability
initiatives.
"We've always been proactive about sharing our experiences in a variety of
areas, including environmental preservation and product stewardship," said
Scott Johnson, Vice President of Global Environmental and Safety Actions.
"This website is a natural extension of our ongoing commitment to foster
awareness and understanding of our work in these important areas. The
site's name reflects our belief that a multinational organization can do
what's right and win responsibly in a competitive marketplace."
The site (www.dowhatsright.com)
provides fast, easy access to a wide range of information on SC Johnson's
global work in creating environmental, economic and social value.
Specific site features include:
A comprehensive review of the company's Greenlist environmental
classification system for ingredient selection and product development. SC
Johnson recently received the Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership for
the accomplishments of the Greenlist program.
A detailed timeline of the company's century-old record of social and
environmental responsibility, including being the first company in America
to offer paid vacations to its employees (1900); voluntarily and
unilaterally eliminating chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from its aerosol
products three years before the U.S. mandate (1975); having then-chairman
Samuel C. Johnson serve as a founding member of World Business Council for
Sustainable Development (1991; current Chairman and CEO, Fisk Johnson,
serves as Council Member today); and being among the first companies to
reach its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Leaders program, reducing its
U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 23 percent per pound of product from 2000
to 2005.
Profiles of sustainable development initiatives in action, including
examples of the company's work South Africa, Ghana and Kenya.
Reprints of Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson's "Dialogue on
Sustainability," a collection of letters to stakeholders about experiences
in a variety of social, economic and environmental areas with sustainable
development thought leaders.
Links to the company's 2005 Public Report, a repository of news
releases on the company's sustainability initiatives and SC Johnson's
corporate home page.
The site was first revealed at last month's World Economic Forum in Davos,
Switzerland.
