George W. Bush Lauded for Recognizing Opportunities for Post-Carbon Economy by SustainLane.com
(CSRwire) San Francisco, CA--SustainLane congratulates President George Bush
on acknowledging in the lead-up to Tuesday's State of the Union Address
that America needs to get off hydrocarbons and convert its economy to
renewable energy sources.
"...We have to wean ourselves off hydrocarbons, oil," Bush said in a
recent CBS News interview preceding today's State of the Union address.
"And the best way, in my judgment, to do it is to promote and actively
advance new technologies..."
We view The President's call to leadership as not only a giant leap toward
an economy built on renewable sources, but an economy that puts
health--that of the environment, of our economy, and of ourselves--at the
top of everybody's agenda.
We at San Francisco-based non-partisan for-profit SustainLane
wholeheartedly support this post-carbon economy path, and we are helping
promote our nation's transformation by providing our virtual community (www.sustainlane.com) with resources
that are helping build an alternative to the oil economy through the use
of renewable energy and more.
Doing Our Part
In our online community, we help each other learn how to make ourselves
and our families less fossil fuel dependent in our homes, in our
transportation choices and at our jobs. Whether it's through green
building, using public transportation, choosing safer alternatives to
plastics, driving biodiesel vehicles or eating food from local producers,
our mission is to collectively transform the health of the U.S. economy
for the post-carbon era.
"The President's desire to support emerging technologies, often called
'clean technologies,' is a vote for American jobs, and healthy local
economies," said James Elsen, President and CEO of SustainLane.
"SustainLane understands this imperative, which is why we have just
launched the nation's largest regional directory of local businesses and
internet companies that embody the entrepreneurial energy around the
exciting new direction of sustainable products and services in our
country."
The SustainLane e-Directory (The SLED) http://www.sustainlane.com/sch-search-directory-call.php
is a searchable directory of more than 1,500 businesses in Northern
California, and also those found on the internet, that make weaning
ourselves off hydrocarbons a little easier. You will find a range of solar
and green building contractors, native landscaping designers, and
restaurants and markets featuring food that is farmed or produced locally
and sustainably and without the use of petrochemically based fertilizers
and pesticides. Getting the nation off hydrocarbons will not only take the
adoption of new energy-related technologies, but it will also take a shift
in spending patterns toward America's local economies, all while
conserving energy intensive resources, such as water, food and the basic
products we use every day. We'll help you make those decisions, and we're
asking people everyday for their own suggestions and recommendations, and
adding that information to our website for free universal access for all
to see and use.
The SustainLane US City Rankings
SustainLane's US City Rankings http://www.sustainlane.com/cityindex/citypage/ranking/
are the nation's first real indication of which cities are preparing for
the post-hydrocarbon economy. City leaders such as Portland are focusing
on achieving energy conservation through green building, and San
Francisco's Mayor Gavin Newsom has increased recycling to approximately
70% of its total waste stream, saving significant energy, while generating
revenue. Seattle's Mayor Greg Nickels has led 200 of the nation's mayors
across the political spectrum to agree to limit greenhouse gasses through
hydrocarbon emission reductions, while Austin's Mayor Will Wynn has helped
make Austin the number one U.S. city consumer of renewable wind and solar
energy in the nation, creating a citywide clean-energy industry incubator
in the process.
"I agree with Americans who understand being hooked on foreign oil as an
economic and a national security problem," Bush said. We applaud our
President's statements, and believe that the issues of health, economy,
and leadership are indeed bi-partisan issues that require and deserve
widespread support and encouragement. Now for the hard work...we need to
make it happen. Each of us has the opportunity everyday to help our nation
move toward a happier, healthier, non-carbon way of being. It is our
intention at SustainLane to provide the support for Americans on this
personal, and national, journey to the post-carbon society. Come join us
