Motorola Foundation Donates to United Negro College Fund in Support of Universities Devastated by Hurricane Katrina
Funds Will Help Rebuild Math, Science and Technology Centers at Three Universities in the Gulf Coast Region
(CSRwire) SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- The Motorola Foundation, a charitable giving arm
funded by Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), today announced a $250,000 donation
to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) for its support of universities
that suffered devastation from Hurricane Katrina.
The funds will support the approximate 10,000 students and faculty at New
Orleans-based Xavier, Dillard and Southern Universities who suffered
severely as Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Gulf Coast region.
Funding from Motorola Foundation will cover costs associated with
rebuilding math, science and technology centers at the three schools.
"Together with UNCF, Motorola is committed to the successful rebuilding of
these institutions," said Ed Zander, chairman and CEO, Motorola. "This
donation brings us one step closer to getting faculty and students back to
these schools, repairing facilities and replacing equipment and technology.
We are proud that these funds will help the three schools achieve long
term goals of delivering high quality math, science and technology
programs to students."
Including the UNCF gift, Motorola and the Motorola Foundation's
humanitarian and business response to the 2005 Hurricanes was the
single-largest disaster recovery effort in the company's 77-year history.
In addition to a cash donation, Motorola's mission critical response was
comprised of in-kind and equipment donations.
