Motorola Announces Aid to Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

Motorola is on the Scene with Mission-Critical Communication Equipment,Motorola Foundation to Donate up to $500,000 to the American Red Cross' Disaster Relief Fund

(CSRwire) SCHAUMBURG, Ill.- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today several initiatives to support disaster assistance and humanitarian relief efforts in the Gulf Coast region devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Motorola is providing equipment and technical support to meet critical communications needs in affected areas. In addition, Motorola is providing direct financial support to the American Red Cross' Disaster Relief Fund with an immediate cash donation $250,000 from the Motorola Foundation. The Motorola Foundation has also pledged to donate up to additional $250,000 as part of an employee matching gift program.

Motorola associates have been working tirelessly since prior to Katrina's landfall to deliver vital communications equipment and support to first responders working in affected areas. To date, Motorola has:

  • Shipped more than 2,500 pieces of emergency communication equipment (portable radios, fully-charged batteries, chargers) to impacted areas.

  • Provided more than a thousand Motorola rugged i325 IS iDEN handsets and accessories.

  • Supported both Motorola and non-Motorola customers with additional mission-critical communication equipment to aid in disaster recovery efforts.

  • Deployed three emergency communication trailers to support disaster assistance and humanitarian relief efforts.


    • A trailer delivered to the Louisiana State Police is being deployed as an additional 700 MHz emergency communication radio system that delivers seven additional channels and 300 additional radios.

    • A second trailer has been delivered to the Baton Rouge area and will provide first responders with an additional 900 MHz emergency network.

    • A third trailer will be used by the Louisiana National Guard.
