Image Microsystems Awards Environmental Research Grant to Texas Tech University

(CSRwire) AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 2005--Image Microsystems Inc. awards a $75,000.00 grant to Texas Tech University's Center for Applied Research in Advanced Manufacturing. The Centers' Program Director, Dr. Hong-Chao Zhang, and his team provide ongoing research in the area of Life-Cycle Engineering and Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing.

"Through our research collaboration with Image Microsystems, we have the opportunity to develop leading-edge research solutions for both business and academia. The research also supports our undergraduate and graduate curriculum development," said Dr. Zhang.

Image Microsystems chose to support Dr. Zhang's work because it is pertinent to the company's own mission of offering innovative recycling solutions for outdated computer and other IT equipment to eliminate the legal, financial, and environmental risk and burden associated with disposal and environmental waste.

"We believe there may be positive global implication to the research findings of Dr. Zhang's team," says Dr. Alex Abadi, C.E.O., Image Microsystems, Inc. "Having the ability for the private sector and academia to work closely together develops true synergy in finding sustainable solutions for manufacturing to lessen the environmental impact of outmoded IT equipment."

Over the next few years, the Center's research will focus on cell phone End-of-Life, electronic products, plastic waste and recycling as well as an additional grant from the National Science Foundation GOALI program to research, model and optimize the reverse logistics channel to improve responsiveness, speed and cost savings while minimizing stress on the environment.

"Image Microsystems is proud of its relationship with Texas Tech University and Dr. Hong-Chao Zhang and we look forward to discovering practical solutions for End-of-Life challenges in the electronics industry," said Dr. Abadi.
